Might be controversial but I thought the stint he did as Partridge on Sky was a bit naff and Alpha Papa was okay.

Alpha Papa was crap, nowhere near as good as his tv stuff

knowing me knowing you I think is really underrated in comparison to I'm Alan partridge - not saying the latter isn't great but the former is usually just sort of glossed over

really all that Ianucci stuff from the 90s is gold - The Day Today, The Thick Of It, Partridge

Jonathan Creek
OFAH
Blackadder
Fawlty Towers
Partridge
Bottom
Red Dwarf
One foot in the Grave

On constant repeat in my house.

Outside of BBC:

Father Ted
Midsomer Murders - faaaack you, it’s brilliant

The office was usurped by the American version - Steve Carrell just did it better.

I agree it’s not even top 10 - Only fools and Horses absolutely murders it as does Fawlty towers.

Detectorists I brilliant, not top 10 though

The US Office is a completely different show targeting a completely different audience. Great show but nothing like the British version which pioneered comedy this century.

As for only fools, watched it all through recently, alas time has done it no favours, nowhere near as good as it seems to be considered.

I'm Alan Partridge series 1 is the best BBC sitcom. I don't rate the second series as highly, I thought Mid Morning Matters was better and very underrated.

If you're talking specifically BBC comedy then The Thick Of It is brilliant, alongside the others you've mentioned. Going back a bit further, there's The Day Today. Basically anything Armando Iannucci has had involvement in. I'd add Veep to that too, even though it's technically not British, most of the crew were and you can really tell.

100%. It's without question the best Partridge series. There's a brilliant line in that where the phone in was about potential celebrity offspring. One bloke phoned up and said he'd have Pamela Anderson and Stephen Hawking because then you'd have a beautiful genius. Partridge responded with "or, a disabled lifeguard"

Anyone remember Monkey Dust? Was an extremely dark animated comedy on BBC3 about 20 years ago. One of my favourites, alongside the usual lot of Blackadder/Red Dwarf/Bottom/Still Game.

Also don't think the sketch shows should go without a mention. Harry Enfield & Chums, the Fast Show and That Mitchell and Webb Look were all brilliant.
