Anyone remember Monkey Dust? Was an extremely dark animated comedy on BBC3 about 20 years ago. One of my favourites, alongside the usual lot of Blackadder/Red Dwarf/Bottom/Still Game.
Also don't think the sketch shows should go without a mention. Harry Enfield & Chums, the Fast Show and That Mitchell and Webb Look were all brilliant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Fast Show has aged well (when most sketch-based comedies haven't).
Can't believe no one mentioned The Thick of It until page 4 of comments. Everything Ianucci has written is great.

The Office is the best comedy of all time, zero doubt.
Peep Show if that is BBC?
Detectorists also if that is on the beeb
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The office was usurped by the American version - Steve Carrell just did it better.
I agree it’s not even top 10 - Only fools and Horses absolutely murders it as does Fawlty towers.
Detectorists I brilliant, not top 10 though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The US Office is a completely different show targeting a completely different audience. Great show but nothing like the British version which pioneered comedy this century.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Prefer the us one to be honest, less cringe
----------------------------------------------------------------------
thats exaclty what they were going for ... that cringey comedy its all about social awkwardness.

Dwight is the best character in either version

ok, it's not a sit-com, but it's still comedy.. and it's still brilliant even after god knows how many re-watches
Haven’t read the whole thing but the Office , Extras Fawlty Towers and black adder goes fourth are personal favs and can rewatch them over and still laugh
Didn’t see Man Down mentioned ? The 1st series with Rick Myall was great
This Country was funny too

Honestly I'd say all of them have aged fine. That Mitchell and Webb Look still cracks me up, and "The Event" sketch actually aged even better post-Covid.
My favourites were always the "behind the scenes" skits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyyyh8_Afyw

If you're talking specifically BBC comedy then The Thick Of It is brilliant, alongside the others you've mentioned. Going back a bit further, there's The Day Today. Basically anything Armando Iannucci has had involvement in. I'd add Veep to that too, even though it's technically not British, most of the crew were and you can really tell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree on the Armando Iannucci stuff although I never really got into TTOI. Time Trumpet was another which was hilarious and kind of went under the radar.
As for sketch shows, Big Train deserves a mention and Monty Python of course.

Don't remember Catherine Tate being in it but it does have a few of the Spaced gang, which has reminded me that The Peter Serafinowicz Show was pretty good also. He is a great impressionist.

Fair enough. I don't think she was one of the prominent actors in it, was she?
Diane Abbott’s interview about paying the police is the funniest thing I have ever seen on the BBC
