Go, immediately. Don’t want to waste another tournament with the best players in the international game and PE teacher management.

Go. That's four matches against one of the best teams in the tournament where he has been found wanting tactically.

Regardless of record or where he has taken England from, its time to get a new voice in there with a different tactical mindset - ideally one that prioritises playing to our strengths instead of trying to hide our weaknesses.

He’s time is up. Nearly did it twice, but feel luck of the draw only reason. I think the players probably respect him and he’s got most out of them in that boring, negative stubborn style of play.

We have to appoint a manager who is brave enough to take advantage of the attacking talent we have. The problem with pragmatic managers is that they depend solely on moments and the individual brilliance of players - Mourinho, Conte etc are top class at this. But football has moved on. In a league situation, you can win like this because you lose few games if you have the best players. However, in knock out football, it is the braver manager who often wins. De la Fuente is a brave manager, playing to the strengths of his team.

Shocked people still believe this to be honest.

He has taken us as far as he can. We need a better manager who can take us to the next level and get the best from what we have. Southgate always falls short when it really matters, relying on individual quality rather than a tactically superior performance.

Who? Honestly no idea.

Yep. This is a nutshell is why we’re destined to fail regardless of the manager. The arrogant belief we have the best players in the world. This leads to the enormous pressure which sees the players fold every tournament. Been happening ever since 66 and will continue to do so long after Southgate’s gone

Go.

I thought that was the plan anyway?

This "best squad" thing is a red herring. There are huge gaps in our squad, especially in central defence and midfield. But I do think that the Spanish coach would have got a tune out of our squad. We have no patterns of play.

He’s been more successful than most to be fair to him, but think it’s time for someone new.

I’d expect him to step down.

Also Kane should never start for England again. Awful.

Greatest ever player? Nowhere near

He had a poor tournament (still joint top goalscorer but I agree he wasn't great), but to say he should never play for England again is way OTT. He is still one of the best strikers in the world and England's greatest ever scorer. A different manager who can get the best out of him would never drop him. He is lightyears ahead of anyone else for England in that position

Go.

Take Flat track, stat padding bottle job Kane with him.

Imagine a striker stat padding stats with goals (the most ever for any English player)

Someone who’d thrash cannon fodder teams but get ripped apart on the counter against someone half decent.

Or actually play to our strengths. Do you think that we would be so bad with De La Fuente in charge? Spain have great players, yes, but they have a style of play which looks to put them on the front foot, even without a top striker and playing the much maligned Cucurella who is much maligned in our press.

I'm in two minds.

He has tried and ultimately failed but he has done better than all before him, bar Ramsay. Plus who's going to replace him?

posted on 15/7/24

Absolutely should go there is a reason why we are a moments team simply because the tactics employed are non-existent certainly from an attacking sense. If you think about it when was the last time England put in a really good 90 minutes of football I can't remember and that's a crime with the ability in the squad.

Speaking as someone who thoroughly enjoyed last night.

England need a new manager, Southgate is too cautious and England let another massive opportunity slide through their fingers. Spain scored then England started playing and looked dangerous, Palmer scores and I thought England had the momentum and would go on to win it but they reverted to type.

There was enough talent on that pitch to try and take the game to Spain and bar the time between the opener and equaliser England played a rigid cautious game.

Also obvious he was too loyal to players like Kane, Foden, Saka. All top players but he didn't pick on form at the tournament.

Thankfully.

Time for him to go. He's done an ok job but he is a loser of a manager.

I also live in Spain, and once England got through, there was an article in "Sport" newspaper which basically said that Spain could not lose the final because of Southgate and lambasting his inability to play a style of football to suit our players. They called Southgate Watford's Deschamps!!!

for anybody interested. They were not wrong!

Southgate apparently said that after our goal he was "thinking of making changes". But he didn't because he was waiting until extra time.

I think the way we beat Slovakia wad the worst thing that could happen in that regard, because southgate after that game justified his waiting on the back of that game, so he thought he could do the same thing against the best team in the tournament.

posted on 15/7/24

He should. We only got the final because we faced far inferior teams, and still struggled to beat them.

Realistically, I think our choice of replacements are Poch, Potter or Howe. My preference would be Poch, but would take the other two.
