Wooohooo!

BK, would you prefer him or Neves? PSG will effectively use the Ugarte money to buy João Neves from Benfica! Another player touted as a generational talent, can we afford to keep missing out on this type of player?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd be lying if I said I'd watched either of them. What I will say is that profile-wise, Ugarte looks like exactly the kind of midfielder we desperately need within the squad: an aggressive midfield dynamo that snaps into tackles, can recycle the ball cleanly if not spectacularly, plays at a high intensity and can cover a lot of ground and facilitate those around him.

We've needed to improve the athletic profile of the squad and to me Yoro, Zirkzee and Ugarte would certainly do that - all mobile, physical players in the earlier parts of their careers with room to grow and develop.

Middle paragraph sounds like Fred and Herrera.

If we can only flog one of Casemiro or McTominay I’d probably go for McTominay. I know he gets the odd goal but in terms of what he does in midfield he’s completely useless. Casemiro on the other hand could get back to some form and be of use.

Ideally we sell both and bring in 2 CMs who can actually be of use.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If I had to pick one, it'd be the one with the lowest bid. Not much to pick between either. If the same bid then keep Mactominay, I always feel Casemiro is likely to get sent off, even more so the worse he gets

tbf to Casemiro, it seems like his card is always marked by refs before the game begins.

Always picks up yellows for doing sod all, which every single other PL player gets away with.

There was a a spell last season when we had 3 away games at Luton, Villa and Wolves, and Casemiro got 2 yellows and gave away a pen without actually making contact with anyone.

Flog Casemiro to Saudi league this window for a decent sum and get rid of McT during the winter window or next summer.

Would Casemiro play second fiddle to Ugarte?! I have my doubts. If and it's a very big if Casemiro miraculously discovers his first season form then it would be win-win as a key area of the pitch would have much needed competition and depth. I have my doubts about Casemiro turning it around, last season was a shocker and I don't want him in a Utd shirt.

McT is useless as a CM but could be useful as an emergency CF when we're chasing goals late in games.

Only properly watched Ugarte in the 22-23 season in the tie where Sporting knocked Arsenal out of the Europa League. He excelled in that match. In particular his physicality.

On Casemiro vs McTominay...

I'd probably sell McTominay over Casemiro. Firstly, when on some semblance of form, Casemiro is a highly valuable player in a position that isn't easy to find top quality in. He's a specialist defensive midfield player and one of the best around (when fit and in form). He's a player that tends to be at his best when he plays a lot, and last season was the first in his career where he missed a lot through injury. I think he deserves some benefit of the doubt. I'm worried as anyone by the signs he's displayed in his game but our set-up didn't help anyone and as mentioned, his injuries had to be a factor.

Also, for all McTominay's goal scoring exploits, he actually scores less than Casemiro on average (3.6 goals per season versus 5.25 goals per season over the last 8 seasons). If it's someone from midfield who can chip in with a few extra goals, Casemiro actually does it better.

Lastly, losing Casemiro would weaken us in two areas: a player with massive experience at winning and competing for trophies, and real aerial prowess in terms of winning duals in both boxes and general play - the latter is something we have to be a bit mindful of I think. Varane, Maguire and Casemiro are comfortably our best headers of the ball. Varane has already left and Maguire won't be a starter (and may well leave himself). It leaves us a little light in the aerial dominance stakes if Casemiro also exits.

This is all true, but we’ve also to consider the wage difference and whether the players are content with staying at United.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if the club and Casemiro are both keen to part ways as a priority compared to McTominay.

I think it would be best to get Casemiro’s wages off the books. I’ll happily be proven wrong but I’d be utterly shocked if he finds his form again at this club.

Last season he was atrocious. One of the worst players I’ve seen play regularly in my time watching United.

Yea I'd agree with those considerations. If we did sell Casemiro I can't see how we wouldn't go back into the market for another midfield player. ETH doesn't use McTominay deeper in midfield so we'd only have Mainoo, Ugarte and Eriksen at a push who have regularly played deeper in midfield under ETH (and Eriksen was really a solution from within to not getting FDJ).

If we let go of McT I think we could get away with only bringing one midfielder in for now (we need more, but may not be able to solve all the issues in one window), especially if Mount actually stays fit (effectively replacing McT) and maybe there's a young player we can promote into the first team squad (Toby Collyer?) to at least make up the numbers.
