Why are we playing the likes of AWB and McT last night, makes me think they’re not as close to leaving as we think/links to bids coming in aren’t that true.
Watched some highlights, looks like we played some nice football at times tbf. Sancho and Amad linking well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The likes of Dalot, Mainoo and Bruno aren’t back yet. There’s a possibility that none of those three will be ready for opening day, so we need to get others up to speed, even if they’re gone by deadline day.
There may also be a degree of shop-windowing.

It's a bit of a game I'd imagine. If we don't play them then it seems they are open to be sold for a lower price perhaps.
I think given the issues we’ve had with injuries it would be negligent to not get potential squad players up to speed. If a deal cannot be struck, unfortunately, we’ll still be stuck with AWB and McTominay, but at least they’ll be match fit versions of their shiiiiitty selves.
SE85: make a ridiculous point that implies specific impact injuries were not bad luck but down to excessive training.

He filtered me because I asked if he ever actually reads the posts he replies to, because they’re always non sequiturs.
With regard to the wider issue of the number of apparently fatigue-related injuries we suffered last year, I think there are a number of factors to be considered:
- We knew before ETH arrived that the athletic profile of our squad is well below City, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc. We don't have a core of players who can handle the intensity of pressing with high energy for 90 minutes, and this seems to have been badly overlooked in recruitment over several years.
- It's something that needs to be rectified in new recruitment (e.g. both Hojlund and Zirkzee cover a lot of ground compared with Rashford; this was Mount's USP before they switched his legs with paper straws) but in the meantime, we need to try to raise the fitness / stamina levels of the players we are working with.
- There's a fine line between succeeding in raising the physical level of the players and overworking them, resulting in injuries. It's hard to argue that ETH got that right last season, given the results, but on the other hand, the tendency for the team to run out of energy to soon could have looked even worse if there had been less emphasis on fitness.
- I'd have liked to see him rotate the squad more, to reduce the dangers of fatigue. But that's not an approach without downsides, because the quality of the second string players isn't great. In fact, we saw how much worse we were with key first choice players out for most of the season.
All in all, I hope ETH is made to look forensically at what went wrong last year, and that the new medical leadership at the club can have an impact in reducing the risk of another season like the last one.
Ive not heard this before....but if Yoro did feel pain in his foot the day before and sat out training, then there is no reason in the world why he should have been picked to play vs Arsenal with the outcome that his painful foot ended up busted.
This is not bad luck. If true.

What does everyone think of Amad's potential? I've liked the cut of his jib from the start, but I've also seen people whose views I respect cast a lot of doubt on his ability to consistently add value in the PL due to his physical limitations, in particular lack of pace. I hope they are wrong on that. You see e.g. Bernado Silva thriving at City, as a player who is not particularly strong, big or quick, but still a good athletic fit because he can work very hard for 90 minutes.

Amad and Mainoo for 4 months last year. Now Yoro and Rasmus with the most number of injuries accumulated in the PL season sandwiched in-between.
Bad luck? Nah... not buying it anymore. There's more than just bad luck at play here. Players leaked to the press last season that our training sessions were too demanding and everyone piled on them saying they were crying babies. But look at what happened on matchdays last year. We looked physically shot in a good 70-75% of our games.

I think he gets massively overrated by our fans. He looks like he has potential to be a decent premier league player, but he may need regular games to realise that potential, and I’m not sure he’ll get that at United.
I think the physical limitations are fair, and to counter the comparison with Bernardo, I’d argue that his technical ability being levels above Amad’s make up for his.
That said, Amad does actually look pretty strong on the ball with decent acceleration, so if he can hone parts of his technical game, and develop awareness in and out of possession in a way a lot of very good small players have in the past, it may not be an issue. Especially if he plays in a team that want to become ball dominant and use their attackers in tight areas of the pitch.

Wasn't intended as a comparison between the players - just Bernado was the first example that sprang to mind of a player who isn't a physical beast but nevertheless meets the athletic requirements of his team (playing with intensity for a whole match) as well as being highly skilled. But I suppose lack of raw pace is less of an issue if your role in the team rarely means dribbling past an opponent or outsprinting a defender to reach a through ball.
