Didn’t see the game today but not too bothered about losing on pens.

How did we play?

Any standouts?

Anyone poor?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Decent to be fair. The better side.

Casemiro.

No one really. Finishing needs to improve though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Amad was very good, Nacho too when he came on

Marcus and Sancho absolute sheite, let's not hold our punches. If Marcus had converted at least one of his two chances then we walk away deserved winners.

Bruno’s ‘goal’ was absolutely sublime. Real shame it was offside, great movement to cut back and the chip was exquisite

Yeah, if only he delayed his run by a fraction

Performance was more pleasing than anything. Every pre season game has had evidence of an uplift in performance. We are getting to where we need to be slowly but surely.

Onwards and upwards!

Good to hear Casemiro was good. If he’s staying we really need something like his 1st season October-March.

So, silver and not gold. It's something. Let's not be too disappointed.

IT'S A FRIENDLY!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s not a friendly. It’s very important to open the season with a win in Wembley. That’s why Guardiola took seriously.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a friendly. That's why there was no discussion in advance on here.
City lost their last three before today.
It must have given Pep minutes of anguish.

Problem is we tend to do well against teams that set out to attack. It’s those that don’t we’ll likely still have issues with

With De Ligt and Licha we have CBs who can initiate attacks from deep, Mazraoui can provide width and goal threat from RB, Shaw or Amass can do same from LB, Amad and Nacho are a menace down both flanks. We just need CM and attack to click. I expect Ugarte and Berge Berge to arrive, that gives us control in CM then either Zirkzee or Hojlund to covert chances.

I don't disagree with your reservations Baz, but it's starting to feel different this season.

I'd rather lose to City on pens in a glorified friendly and beat Fulham next week any day of the week.

Is it the heat that's got to some folk? The charity/community shield has never mattered and it doesn't count in a trophy collection and never has. We only count the major ones as they are the only ones that matter.

I thought we played quite well and it has made me more optimistic for next Friday than I originally was.

With a proper striker we would have won today but lack of concentration closing out matches cost us which is a feature from last year.
Stil not sold on ETH he just leaves me cold but the next five or six games are where it’s at now we need a good start.

Sander Berge would be another monumental waste of money. He isn't good enough for where we need to go.

Not seen enough of Ugarte but apparently he's not even that great on the ball. He's a proper destroyer though which we certainly lack.

Depends on the price with Berge. Easy to dismiss players like that.

We don’t need a DM to be amazing on the ball as long as he can keep it well.

He's not a proper DM though. Burnley fans on their thread about him was saying he was weak defensively and only in team to hit long balls. Most of them can't believe he's been linked with us which says everything. 😂

I'd genuinely rather see an academy player given a go than spend £20-30m on him. He hasn't looked great in either PL season for Sheff Utd or Burnley.

Yes, better than last season for sure. If we become a more compact team overall I still think he can be an asset. Doesn't look at the moment he's going so hopefully he has it in him to play at a highish level again. Some DM cover would help though so he doesn't play every game!

...but, but it's always included in the list of things Fergie won.
