We'll only sign if better than what we have

Probably hear next that Jack Clarke has gone to Fulham or Palace for £25 million and Sunderland have signed Benson from Burnley.

Benson doesn't excite me. Which probably means we will end up with him

Jack Clarke mooted at £25m which is far too much. I think I’ve read Spurs get 40% of any sale! Wow! But Sunderland only paid £5m for him so I guess Spurs want their £10m back.

He would be the one I’d go after - £15m plus add ons might get him. Then go get a decent striker. Move Aaronson to number 10. If we must then let Willy go. I’ve not been that impressed with him so far. £25 for him and I would snap their hands off. Only if we get Vkatke though - or Rowe.

I think you are spot on here, Clarke worth about £15-18m...IMO.
Everton is you believe what you read offered £23m for Willy, I think £25m is the magic number.
Aaronson is definitely not a winger, even if we can get Clarke or someone of that ilk I'd still bring Jaidon Anthony back...think he had more to offer than the opportunities he got.
We simply have to work out what to do with Piroe, I'd try playing him as a false 9...Joseph and Bamford just not cutting it.

Under Kompany, during their promotion season,
Benson tore the Championship apart. Since then,
he's dealt with a few injuries. Is he injury prone?
Or just went through a tough stretch? Not sure
he's what we need when we already have a fair
few medical table jockeys in the squad.

He's a body though. With a pulse. Progress.

On Piroe, he smashed it under Russell Martin.

Is he the problem? Or is Farke's inability to get
the best out of him - like Martin did - the problem?

If we signed Clarke whom would he start ahead of, James or Gnonto?

^^^

That's easy: Gnonto to the right wing. Clarke left.
James to the bench. Assuming we're actually
serious about resigning Jack. Which I doubt we are.

So James who scored freely last season, showed no attitude issues unlike Gnonto, but you'd see him as the weakest of those three?

James over Gnonto for me.

Sadly James had a collapse in confidence after the penalty miss that cost Wales their place in the Euros. He’s yet to prove he’s over that. While we’re on the subject, that failure to qualify also had a demoralising effect on the rest of our Welsh contingent, the direct result being the run-in slump that cost us automatic promotion. But I hold no grudges!

Jonty, I agree with your headline presumption that we should only buy in players better (or at least no worse) than those we’re losing. So I find it baffling to hear the enthusiasm in certain quarters for players like Benson from Burnley. The guy is struggling to get a place in the first team at Turf Moor so how in heaven’s name is he an adequate replacement for the likes of Summerville, a player who’ll walk into a mid-table Prem side? I know we’re keen to bolster our depleted squad size but if that means going for Championship rejects, I truly despair.

Benson has a Costa feel about him
Had a good season in a previous promoted side but that might be as good as it gets for him

If we can keep Gnonto then we could get by with just Jaidon Anthony brought in on loan and along with James we have cover for either flank with Bogle and Firpo able if need be to be utilised there with Byram filling in in their absence at lb or rb.....This is looking like a Ken Bates cheap skate master plan in squad building or rather squad dismantling.

Another day closer to the transfer deadline.
Not a squeak from our owners and nothing from sources close to the club.

Word on another Leeds transfer forum is that Ljubicic deal is done, another transfer will be announced tomorrow aswell as the 3rd kit reveal.

It's looking like no new faces for the Shef Wed game and by the time we play our next game after that against Hull the transfer window will be shut and I'm sure more and more of us on here are sensing something is not right.

Ooh I didn't see your post Shaun so my comments could be somewhat premature which if said signings are true will be a pleasant surprise and a mighty relief.

Ljubicic and Benson or Jaidon Anthony maybe as I really can't see us shelling out what Sunderland want.

I find it baffling how we can’t get any decent loan signings from PL. we’ve always had shockers others than Ben white and rodon. Should be able to get 2 quality loanees that play week in week out

I don't think Piroe has a "sweet spot" personally.

Loses possession most of the time. Has little end-product in terms of setting-up teammates.

Scored some last season, but we were dominant in so many games that he had to I suppose. I can't remember many individual efforts on his part.

With Piroe in the team, we are playing with 10 men.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Play him more advanced & he scores goals. Unless we sign a striker, who in the current squad over a season is likely to score more?

Links to Benson is genuine but they might be put off by the fact we're in the same league.

Everything I've read on this so far suggests that the
problem is the club/Farke can't guarantee PL loanees
the game time their clubs want.

Let that one sink in. This threadbare squad is so
flush with PL level talent, it means PL talent can't
get minutes. Madness.

Worst thing in football is believing the players you
currently have are better than everyone else's.

Never said that.

So by that comment, you must believe our
current squad contains players who are better
than any PL player who might be had via loan.

That's a wow right there.

You should email the 49ers and tell them they
can call off their player recruitment this
window. LIW thinks we're as is and
obviously stacked with PL ready players.

You cant have situation where player is guaranteed to play, however poor his form at the expense of a player we own.
