Good news. Promising start for INEOS in this window.

Greatest player ever if deal agree
Awful player if deal not agree.
Never seen play
If we do it will have been a great window.
If he is as good as reported, and stays fit of course, I really fancy us for top 3.
From what I know of Ugarte, he's a player who can do the tackling and covering space more like a young Casemiro but doesn't have the same range of passing. It's a profile that will be useful in our squad but definitely leaves us with more work to do, particularly in taking the burden in build-up off Mainoo. It would be harsh to judge INEOS for failing to fill all the gaps in our squad in one window. But I hope we see Ugarte develop as a player with the ball at his feet, and also that the business we have done this summer (reducing the overall wage bill) + savvier recruitment give us the opportunity to bring in talent for controlling possession and creating from midfield over the next year.

Still think that's a stretch. We've got a lot of weaknesses to sort out, which relies on adding tactical coherence, bedding in a lot of new players, and avoiding key injuries. We need to progress from a position where our underlying performance levels should have seen us finishing closer to the middle of the table, in a situation where there are more teams than ever before with credible designs on qualifying for the CL, all of whom were better than us last season and have worked to strengthen over the summer.
I'm looking forward to the season immensely and I hope to see substantial improvement. But there's so many variables that I think we could end up anywhere between 3rd and 7th.
How much have you spent this summer to scrape top 4?
4.6 - Manuel Ugarte made 4.6 tackles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 last season - the last player to make that many in a Ligue 1 campaign and move to the Premier League the following season was N'Golo Kanté in 2014-15 for Caen (5 per 90) before joining Leicester. Manchester?
Pellistri gone to panathanaikos for £5m with 45% sell on clause
Isn’t that the fee PSG wanted all along (€60m) but we refused?
Shame we couldn’t get them to budge, they clearly don’t want him anymore.
He clearly has attributes we need but he isn’t perfect (hence why PSG are selling him) but like Russian said hopefully he can develop in those areas and for now can be a very useful midfielder. Hopefully we continue to improve in that area next summer.
Decent article on what to expect from him.

Never seen him play. Welcome to Manchester!

--------------------------------------------
On the other hand what Ugarte lacks in expansive and creative passing, he'll make up for with security, efficient passing and carrying ability.
I think though with any midfield signing we make we have to take into account the environment they're playing in.
I did worry when we were first linked with Ugarte because I thought we're just buying somebody more dynamic who's able to cover ground more easily and therefore better mask the flaws of the system.
The start of the season has been better to an extent however in that respect but what we did last season without the ball at the very start and very end of the campaign was much better (that's still not saying much) than everything that came in between so it'll be interesting to see how we're doing out of possession in a month or two.
Hopefully having the same back four for more than two games in a row should help.
It would be great if we could sign an alternative to Mainoo but maybe that’s asking too much. Not sure him starting 50 games is the best development for him.

Potentially but he’s a 20 year old with zero senior experience. Remains to be seen if he’s good enough although I hear pre-season looked promising.
And doesn’t play like Mainoo either, so isn’t really an alternative.
Isn’t Collyer more like Ugarte in that he’s a lot more basic in his technique but with a good engine?
Maybe if Ugarte covers the ground as good as they say he does, Eriksen could play next to him in the odd. Not ideal but could at least give Mainoo the odd rest.
Yeah Collyer’s a defensive midfielder. If Eriksen stays we’ll need to use him given how many games we’re likely to play. There’s still plenty of issues with the squad, sadly we’re going to have to make do with certain players. Hopefully we’ll be able to cater for their weaknesses a lot better this season.
Will be interested to see if Ten Hag tries to use Mount and Bruno in midfield with Ugarte as well.
