Sterling or Toney?

If we're spending money, we should go for Eze, or try to give Crystal Palace Sancho for him.

Neither for me.

Sancho wouldn't go to Palace so that's a total non starter. He probably earns nearly 3 times what their highest earner does too so how would that even work?

We pay 100% of his wages

I would rather we just take stock and make no more transfers. Let's see how these new players gel into the squad and what improvements are made over the next few months on the pitch.
There are still a number of players I would like to see be moved on, some are more realistic in this window than others - Lindelof, Eriksen, Sancho, Antony head that list.

Many have said neither which I agree with but that wasn’t the question in the OP.

Between the two I would choose Toney, without hesitation

Neither, and now that Sancho looks like he’s off to Juve they would rule out Sterling.

If we have any money I’d rather we got another CM or LB. Annoying Kadioglu has gone to Brighton, sounded ideal for us.

I wouldn’t be turning my nose up at Sterling if I were Utd.

He can play multiple positions and knows the game inside out. His off the ball work and movement is top class. He’s also a good pro and rarely injured.

He had a comparatively poor year last year and still knocked in eight league goals. Antony will not be scoring 8 league goals this season, and by the looks of it neither will Rashford.

Antony won’t score eight league goals even if he sees his contract out.

I get that Sterling is probably an upgrade on what we have but not enough to get him in imo. Huge wages, no resale value, declining and possibly gonna be worse than he was at Chelsea. I think we settle with what we have for now and wait until something better comes next season. In the meantime spend the money on a CM or LB if there is any.

I’m still hoping (rather naively) that Rashford at least has a purple patch this season with Shaw or Mazroui behind him.

Best place for him is Liverpool then

Out of the question and had to choose one, Toney.

I was thinking a loan. Certainly wouldn’t buy him in those wages!

I think if we could get him on loan on a reduced wage for a year it could be worth it. We need more goals and creativity from wide.

Yeah a loan works, I guess Chelsea would prefer that than nothing? The longer we leave it maybe the more desperate Chelsea will be, they’ve made it clear he has no future at the club.

I think if the financial side of things work Sterling would be worth a punt.

What he'd know at United is that if he produced he'd get games. Chelsea have made it clear he's not getting games there.

I'd take Toney over Sterling and also over every signing we've made this summer and last. Did no one notice how much we struggled for goals?

That’s my thinking. String them along until the last minute for a favourable loan deal. Nobody is actually going to buy him so they’ll be stuck with him.

This Sterling thing shows why Ten Hag and Sancho seemingly made up. Even though we know it was an uneasy truce it's better than just basically stating he won't play. Chelsea really are a mess!*

*If we buy Sterling for a high fee and pay him high wages then I shall have to revisit this!

Apologies if someone already asked this, but assuming Sancho is shipped and there's a sense that we could do with another wide option, what about Sterling vs Chiesa as affordable loan players? I haven't seen anything of the latter since his incredible Euro2020, so no idea how much the injury has taken out of his pace. Sterling certainly isn't the player he used to be in that respect, who was incredible at making runs behind the defence to finish off moves. He's very much another ball to feet player at this point.

Chiesa is signing for us today RR.

I think RR knows this. He was on the Chiesa thread, below this one.
