Isn't it time we brought Lee Sharpe into the conversation?
The debate over the greatest Welsh footballer of all time often centers around two iconic figures: Gareth Bale and John Charles.
Gareth Bale: Renowned for his blistering pace, incredible free-kicks, and decisive moments in major tournaments, Bale has had a hugely successful career at both club and international level. His performances for Real Madrid and Wales, including his iconic goal in the UEFA Champions League final, have solidified his place among the footballing elite.
John Charles: A versatile player who excelled both as a defender and a forward, Charles was known for his strength, aerial ability, and technical skill. He enjoyed successful spells at Leeds United and Juventus, earning a reputation as one of the greatest footballers of his generation.
While both Bale and Charles have strong claims to the title, ultimately, the decision of who is the greatest Welsh footballer is subjective and often depends on individual preferences and criteria.

Weirdly I only found out Elantra was Swedish last week.
Yeah he doesn't have that classic sounding Swedish forward name like Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Alexander Isak do

If you take clutch moments and big trophies out of it and look at consistency and stats, then no. Arguably those are things that help sway it in a player's favour but when you've had one very good season at Spurs and some scattered good seasons at Real, it doesn't amount to too much.
Surely the likes of Greaves and others who have been consistent season after season over a long period, would be ahead?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, always depends what the barometers are. Why i like to look at just the player as an athlete and footballer... the basics. If you start factoring in team accolades etc it gets messy, and theres always counter arguments like well he was in a better team etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or that he was a bit part player for large parts of his Real Madrid time. He had some great moments though. You would arguably say he was more of a moments player. I'd also say that we (Spurs) had the best of him though it really didn't last long enough.
I'd be tempted to put someone like Kane above him just on the basis of consistency, despite Kane's lack of silverware....so far.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bale in a big game or Kane in a big game?
For example, would you want Bale in your team in the final of the Euros, or Kane?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd say Kane. Kane has reached a Euros final, a WC semi final, a runner up place in the PL, a third place in the PL. It's safe to say he's achieved things Bale could only dream of.
I never understood the Bale hype tbh
After that one season at Spurs, he still wasn't consistent enough at Madrid, to be considered a world best...let alone now considering him one of the goats
Robb always creates an article that attracts "debate" or wumming I should say.
He probably sits at his computer laughing away at his minions getting annoyed with each other over comments like "bale will smash Giggs to bits in a 1v1" followed up by united fans going "wtf you on about you cant?"

Exactly.
You know that’s British, right?
Well they can choose I guess but it’s part of the UK
Or am I confused cos Best was playing before the Good Friday thingy?
Fvck it, I didn’t even have him in my top three anyway as I never saw him play.
It’s absolutely not British and it would be ill-advised to call anyone from NI British.
“Britain” refers to the geographic landmass of Great Britain, which is an island comprising the nations of England, Wales, and Scotland. Annoyingly, there’s no landmass named ‘Little Britain’ or just ‘Britain’, as the addition of “Great” implies.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland refers to England, Wales, Scotland, and NI.
NI is situated on the geographic landmass Ireland, which is an island comprising of both ROI and NI.
In essence, Britain =/= the UK and folk from NI would be (quite rightly) very cheesed off to be referred to as British as it’s both geographically incorrect and very politically/religiously sensitive.
I buy that in colloquial terms, the vast majority of people who say “Britain/British” mean to include NI, but I was feeling quite pedantic and wanted to bring that up.
Generally speaking, it is considered good practice to give your view on a player, despite never having seen them play.
