OP if not him then who do you think would improve United and is a realistic option?
A German managing the England team is a bit weird for me. I'm not against foreign coaches per say but having one from one of your great rival nations seems a bit strange.
I genuinely couldn't see Germany doing the same thing with an English manager even we had a top class one they could take.
Doesn't seem like there was any forward planning done at the FA at all in the lead up to the most obvious managerial departure of all time. Everyone knew Southgate was going to walk.

I honestly don't know but I don't believe it is Tuchel.
Too volatile and his track record isn't actually as good as we are lead to believe.

I reckon they had Carsley as their first choice, but it's pretty clear he's decided he doesn't want it.
Have to agree re. Tuchel as well, to me it's always felt like 'cheating' for a footballing nation the size of England to have a foreign manager.
Just give it to Potter if there's no one else.
Tuchel allegedly turned us down in the summer over wanting more control over transfers. Think he's been off the table ever since for INEOS.
Allegri is available but all the other genuine options are all with clubs so it seems like it's Erik or Ruud until the
summer if we don't fancy going for Allegri right now.
I don't know if I trust them to sort this club out anymore quite frankly.
My initial optimism regarding INEOS is
rapidly declining because the transfer window we just had wasn't any different to the ones that came before it really. We've bought some more mediocre players for
more than they are probably worth and one in particular (Zirkzee) who I don't think is good enough at this level.

I partially agree on Zirkzee although it is early days. He does have some good qualities but he doesn't look like he'll ever be prolific so we will need the widemen chipping in with more goals if he plays and they haven't done that in the league at least.

Potter is a much better technical coach than Southgate so I don't see why we wouldn't.
Southgate did handle the media well tbf to him and he
seemed to inspire the players somewhat (although I can't for the life of me see why).
I agree though. It should be an English coach really. It worked fairly well with Sven but we don't have a deep rooted rivalry with the Swedes so nobody was overly bothered by him. Plus he was a nice guy too.
Capello was a disaster even if he was a great coach. It never worked right from the off. Language issues were apparent too.

I think there are more talented forwards playing for the predicted bottom 6 clubs. That young lad, Delap, who Ipswich have signed from City looks a far better player
than Zirkzee for example.
I genuinely don't know what this club does in the transfer market but we are absolutely useless at picking the right players. How are we going to close the gap on our rivals with players like him? The gap will only widen.
In the history of international football, only once has a ‘foreign’ manager won a WC or Euros.
As much as the narrative surrounds the notion that an English manager “should” be English, it’s founded in utmost within empirical evidence.
If Tuchel manages a national side, I want it to be the Netherlands. Just imagine the carnage:
- Notoriously demanding coach who upsets people
- Notoriously fractious and outspoken national squads
- Germany/Netherlands is a genuinely two-sided bitter rivalry, unlike Germany/England.

Most of the 'bigger nations' will tend to pick managers from their own countries as far as I am aware, so it is only natural that very few 'foreign' managers will have won a WC or Euros. It's like saying you should pick a Scottish guy as an EPL manager because more than 40% of titles have been won by Scots - the stats don't really give a true meaning.
I personally don't think that any foreign managers should be allowed in international football, or at least apply the same rules to players to the managers also
Stuck with Ten Hag until he facking relegates us then
I mean Tuchel is a massive upgrade on Carsley who looks like a rabbit in the headlines
The problem with the England job is any manager not only has to manage the players but he has to manage the history and the expectations. Getting a manager that can do all that successfully is very difficult
Southgate was good at deflecting pressure and handing the press - but tactically he was so negative that we were stinking out tournaments even against pretty weak opposition.
Tuchel has the potential to manage all of those aspects BUT he’s a difficult character. Demanding of himself, his employers and the players. It could go very well - it could go very wrong.
The FA however knows there is absolutely no chance they can enter an international tournament with Carsely in charge. That much is obvious
Would be a very, very good appointment. The Tuchel Kane partnership would win every competition they entered
Don't want to see a foreign manager manage England, least of all a German.
England have some quality players around now, it only needs a slightly better English manager than Southgate to go from being nearly men to winning something.
I don't like Tuchel much. Most people who did not like Southgate won't like him either.
He's a better tactician than Southgate but his mindset isn't all that different and his man management is pretty questionable.

There isn’t a slightly better English manager than Southgate. Both Pochettino and Maresca have outperformed what Potter managed to do at Chelsea. Potter is a good coach at mid table PL level and nothing more - certainly nothing to suggest he could handle one of the highest profile jobs in football
Howe - possibly. But I still think Tuchel is a better manager
England fans need to get over the nationality issue. Look at some of the English managers we’ve had - Hodgson, Allardyce, McClaren, Keegan ffs. Carsley would have been the latest shambles on that list

Also Potter was never really given much time to turn it around in difficult circumstances. Bit of an unfair comparison I feel.
