That doesn't absolve the players of the fact they had a p*ss poor attitude at times, but the right man (hopefully Amorim) can at least get them playing together and playing well, with dare I say a smile on their face!
The defence really is where his work will be cut out imo.

I keep saying it on this board, we have a good group of players that are managed poorly. In the right system and the right mood, they would do much better.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would it have been the same had we missed all those chances we put in the back of the net as per the last three or four games?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No. It would have been as it has been for a long time now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We seemed to play with much more freedom, with smiles on the players' faces. However, this newfound freedom may have also contributed to the same errors in defensive areas or it could just be that certain individuals cause chaos because they are cr@p. It’s interesting to consider whether this freedom led to a higher conversion rate of chances compared to our season average, or if players are choosing to turn their performance on and off at will. Who knows ? The chances conceived and converted with confidence does not explain why we are where we are. From the outside, it’s understandable for fans to speculate, especially given the number of managerial casualties and the patterns of play leading up to each sacking that we have bad eggs in the group.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dont think anybody is going to judge Ruud as an elite manager on one game. Or even the few games he gets at United. We akso know whst problemscwe have with the players. We still conceeded 2 goals at home last night. Vs Leicester. The new manager has a lot of work to do with this squad. Front to back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
One mistake was made by the keeper, while the others were caused by Dalot, Casemiro, and Lindelof. We were fortunate to escape with only two conceded goals, as Leicester had more than five chances to convert. From a defensive standpoint, it was a mess and requires significant improvement. Some personnel simply aren't good enough, but others may thrive under the right team structure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Klopp only managed in Germany when he went to Liverpool

Amorim 'decision will be made' after Friday's game
published at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time
13:23 GMT
On potentially becoming the new Manchester United manager, Sporting coach Ruben Amorim said: "It's a negotiation between the two clubs. It's never easy. They have to talk.
"We will have clarification after the game [on Friday], it will be clear. So it's one more day and after the game tomorrow, we will have a decision made."
From the press conference, looks like an announcement tomorrow

Great news.
I wonder how Rosso is feeling, having *staked his reputation* on the certainty that Amorim would reject United in order to go to City.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I temporarily forgot my favourite old adage: The less a man makes declarative statements, the less apt he is to look foolish in retrospect.
I'll still only believe it's happening when I see him in a United tracksuit though...
In seriousness, it does look like it's done now, doesn't it?
I'm really not sure about this one. I absolutely love Amorim, and his football. But I'm worried that this isn't the right time for him to be coming, and that we really, really don't have the right kind of players for him.
If I'm right on that last point, unless we see a very significant change in Amorim's philosophy and tactics, it's a big issue, because we also have not a bean to spend. Ineos will be relying on him to completely change these players' attitudes, ideas about football, and even roles. Which is something ETH obviously tried very hard and largely failed to do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely the new sporting leadership have thought this through properly, though, right? They've thought it through, right?

I tend to agree with the VC on this matter. Lindelof simply isn’t good enough, while Dalot has performed well during our difficult times. However, this doesn't necessarily indicate anything significant; it only suggests that he has been less disappointing than others. This isn’t exactly a strong endorsement for a club aiming for success.

Lindelof I completely agree.
The problem is with the injuries with our FBs we're going to need Dalot.
And looking forward to the summer, what are our priorities? We've just bought Mazraoui primarily for RB and I think Dalot is good enough as a back up (for now).
LB is the more pressing need. Then a centre forward imo and another central midfielder. I don't see us prioritising the RB position atm.

He's been around for a while, but I’m never completely convinced he won't make a mistake; he's always one error away from disaster. We can definitely do better. Perhaps a spot in the squad would be acceptable at best, still not convinced as a long term option once our squad rebuild is complete. I'm fairly certain he's in the "not quite sure category" for the DOF.
Definitely agree about the LB position, an area in need of urgent attention.

We were fortunate to escape with only two conceded goals, as Leicester had more than five chances to convert. From a defensive standpoint, it was a mess and requires significant improvement. Some personnel simply aren't good enough, but others may thrive under the right team structure.

What does our Graeme think?
Graeme Souness:
“I look at Manchester United since INEOS came in and it’s screaming out to me that they don’t really get football.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"...they had a ready made manger in Gareth Southgate waiting in the wings, yet they've gone with this Amorim. And you have to ask yourselves, where's Paul Pogba in all of this?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fack it, appoint souness , he knows

Can't see it confirmed anywhere yet. Probably will be and when it is I look forward to his arrival.
------
Laurie Whitwell reported it, one of the more reliable journos out there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If it's not Fabrizio then I'm oooot!
Tbh I'm sure it will be announced soon enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Brailsford apparently told fans last night that it was done as well. For sure, let's not count our chickens until the here we go!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm genuinely excited by the appointment. The bloke seems to have a personality and manner about him which explains a part of why he's been successful at Sporting. It's some of what we need after Jose, Ole, and Ten Hag.
I also don't buy into the "he's only managed in one league". Yeh we can all name some well-known available managers out there but I think the big names and those who have been around the block often fail to deliver at United.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah good points made and I'm excited too. Young, plays attractive football and has done an impressive job with Sporting.

Ruud was fantastic last night. His enthusiasm and pleasure on the touchline and banter with the supporters was in contrast to TH starring out and scowling and shaking his head at his players all the time.

Casemiro was present, striking a statuesque pose. See the footage again. Despite the brief lapse, he was one of the standout player of the night.

I keep saying it on this board, we have a good group of players that are managed poorly. In the right system and the right mood, they would do much better.
…..
Some maybe. But Lindelof and Dalot are never going to be good enough to be in our defence.

Fergie only managed in Scotland when he came to Utd.
Jose only managed in Portugal when he went to Chelsea.
Klopp only managed in Germany when he went to Liverpool
Pep only managed in Spain when he went to Bayern
Every manager starts in one country.

Dalot can be a decent squad player.
Lindelof needs to be binned asap. Think he's one of the negative influencers in the dressing room as well.

And Rosso, why would he abandon tactics that have proven successful just to keep his job and accumulate wealth? Considering our poor track record with managers since SAF, let's hope we've finally found a winner this time. Here’s to luck and more success on our side.
