Wolves v Crystal Palace Match Thread

Last summer was the first close season GON had to develop a team and the first one that him and Hobbs worked together in deciding how to use the transfer market. And they didn’t do a good job. They were hamstrung by Fosun wanting to get money in from selling players, despite now saying the sustainability limit has never been an issue for Wolves. If that is so why have we sold £200m worth of players in the last couple of years. The consequence of that is now there for all to see.

In the summer we sold two first choice players in Kilman and Neto and in their stead brought in Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Forbs. Three good prospects but here we are in November and none of them are deemed ready for the Premier League. I was pleased we signed Johnstone, not to replace Sa but because the cover we gave in Bentley and King are nowhere near good enough for the Premier League. And we signed Andre into the one area of the pitch that we didn’t need to strengthen. Irony is that he is by far the highest quality signing we made and is far too good to be sat on the bench of a team bottom of the league. Strand Larsen is another really good signing who is unfortunate to come into a struggling team.

What none of the additions have done is replace Neto and Kilman. Although we got decent fees for them. Not replacing them could cost the club hundreds of millions of £s

Never really rated Sarabia and maybe would have been a different game had he scored from those 2 one on one with their 'keeper. Joao Gomes my player of the match and I like the fact that Bueno is getting better.

Right now RAN needs to be rested, as we need the likes of Gomes, Doyle, Lemina and even Andre in midfield. It's a shame we lost Mosquera at the back as he is sorely missed.

I'm not even sure GON knows what his best formation is right now and that's a big worry for me. Anything but 3 points against Southampton and he's out, that's if he's not gone before that.

A quote from GON:-

It won't change a thing of what I do. I'm working to help the group in every moment, and again, we showed real courage, real character, some quality, and Premier League games are tough, and unfortunately, we didn't quite manage to come out on top today.”

One win in the last 20 games and he won't change a thing.

Next week:

Sa

Semedo
Bueno
Dawson
Ait Nouri

Lemina
Doyle
Gomes

Guedes
Larson
Cunha

Let’s forget trying to defend. We concede two and score three. Simples. 3 points

RAN at LB, I think not wulfrunnut. I think he should be rested. Andre has to come back in to midfield too. Unfortunately we lost very good LB when we sent out Hugo Bueno on loan, another crazy decision. Semedo is playing some of his best football and to put him at RB again is, imo, a backward step.

To me the whole squad is disjointed. We don't have enough genuine defenders, we have too many good midfield players and GON doesn't quite know how to set up our forwards.

I'd also like to see Pedro and Rodrigo given more time and they're not even getting much, if any, game time with the U21's.

The set up yesterday was pretty baffling to be honest. RAN in particular wasn't a classical WB at all and quite often he and Cunha were covering the same ground and both popping up all over the pitch. We saw similar in a few games last season. RAN looked lost yesterday in all truth and his poorest game in a long time.

I suspect next weeks decision in GONs head will be Doyle or Lemina. Not sure how Andre fits in next week either, not sure he does.

No idea what the answer is defensively, we could play a back ten and it would make no difference to us defending any ball into the box. Saints will score next week, that is a certain, will we score more?

I think it's 12 goals conceded now from set pieces and that's with the set piece coach getting sacked.

We are a banker BTTS bet every single week.

We ain’t got a clean sheet in us.

Don’t think there’s any doubt that Lemina will start instead of Doyle next week. Doyle didn’t really take his chance at the weekend whereas Lemina came in and played his best football of the season. The Gomes/Lemina partnership was a big positive for us last season but they’ve rarely played together this season.

Still wouldn’t trust us to play with a back 4 even though we’re not much more solid with a 5. At least it gives Semedo and Ait Nouri more freedom to get forward. Wouldn’t mind seeing Andre get a game in the ‘Coady’ role and leave out Toti.

Sarabia simply can’t play again and Guedes did enough on Saturday to earn a chance.

Ten games in and we’ve no clue how we should be setting the team out to play.

Although we can all accept that we haven’t got a single defender capable of playing in a back four, we’re still dreaming of a back four!

Football is very much a confidence sport, and despite protestations to the contrary, I still maintain the steam went out of our boiler room after the Coventry defeat and we’ve never recovered momentum since.

I note the harsh comments about Sarabia, a frustrating player, last week at Brighton second half when he came on, he really played well, it’s odd that defending corners these days don’t seem to involve protecting the back post otherwise that Palace goal would not have been scored, the other one either Sa called he was coming and Strand Larsen did not hear or he didn’t call , but they could have scored on other occasions, I don’t think we need many new players at all just in defence and probably new coaching staff

If we don’t buy at least two defenders in January, we are away at Stoke next season.

Now, let that sink in Fosun.

My annoyance with Sarabia this weekend was partly because he contributed little but also because to me he was hiding. Off the ball he was not moving into space, he was content to stand next to defenders so he was not available to be passed to. In the position we are in we need 11 players fighting for the cause, and to me Sarabia wasn’t.

But I agree we aren’t far short of having a decent team which does suggest GON isn’t getting the best from what he has. Overall I don’t think our team is inferior to the likes of Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham. But defensively we certainly are inferior.

Unfortunately, as long as the defence is considered to be part of the “team”, we absolutely are inferior to the likes of Bournemouth Brentford and Fulham.

Big question is, are we inferior to the likes of Southampton Ipswich and Palace?

Yesterday didn’t bode well for us in that regard.

Just counted 7 threads on MM about O'Neil, everyone stamping their feet like Veruka Salt, "I want him gone, I want Moyes, I want anything to take away my disappointment, I want, I want, I want...."

Most, if not all of these posters are actually older than 8 years old but possibly some not old enough to have endured multiple back to back relegations. Suspect they wont be around when we next end up in League 1.

Read a few comments on X today from do called Wolves fans, saying they wish that Palace’s third goal had been allowed so we had lost.

Strange what passes for supporting a football club nowadays

Dunno what this means, if anything at all

(Bloomberg) -- Peak6 Investments has sold its minority stake in a holding company that operates Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to people familiar with the matter.

Fosun Sports Group recently bought back the shares held by the Chicago-based fintech firm for about $50 million, said the people, who asked not to be identified as the information is private. Peak6’s exit came about three years after it acquired the stake in the Fosun International Ltd.’s unit.

Gykores scored a hat trick for Sporting Lisbon against Man City last night. He was someone I was hoping Wolves would sign from Coventry a few years ago as our Jimenez replacement. At the time Wolves made the highest bid for the striker and that offer was accepted by Coventry. But the deal couldn’t be signed off because Jeff Shi was out of the country at the time. Sporting stepped in, and the rest is history

Fabio has been top scorer for Portugal’s U21s this season and has been a regular for Las Palmas in the Spanish top flight

He has now been named in a provisional 40 man squad for the full Portuguese team for the upcoming Nations League games. There is speculation he will make the cut

Is he still ours? Completely lost track.

Sadly yes, contract up in the summer ?

posted 1 week, 3 days ago

If he became a full international his sale value could go up a few million. Not to £35m though. Contract expires June 2026

Joao Gomes, Nelson Semedo, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Toti Gomes will all need to avoid getting booked in the next nine Premier League fixtures if they want to steer clear of a one-match suspension.

We could be in a bit of trouble if all 4 got booked on Saturday. Fack knows who would play in defence.
