Can you imagine being a professional careers advisor, and your brother in law being out of work for 7 years and you never offering to look at his cv?

You should have gone to her. It's not as if you had anything else to do. Time to drop this victim complex and draw a line in the sand.

Move on and get your bum in gear.

Should have gone to her? She's fully aware of the situation as is the whole family. It's for someone to offer help, not for people to ask for it.

But she has a job and you don't. You need her more than she needs you. Swallow you entitlement and go to her.

She doesn't need me at all in any way whatsoever. I'm not saying she does.
I don't blame her specifically (and it is not her fault in any way whatsoever that I am in this situation), but it's just an indication of the fact that him saying he really wants me to succeed is balls. His wife is a career advisor and has never offered to provide any kind of advice. If he wanted me to get out of this situation his wife would have spoken to me.
That's obvious to me.

Or they are waiting for you to ask mate…..maybe they think you just aren’t interested in sorting stuff out

Ask for help and you may get surprised

If they tell you to do one you know once and for all they couldn’t give a rats

if you don't have a good relationship he might feel like you won't want his help, that you'd find it insulting or demeaning. My family knows to never talk to me about career stuff because I don't want them getting involved. They might think you're like that if you've never approached them.

There's two sides to every story, it doesn't have to be that he either has been incredibly helpful or he doesn't want you to succeed
