Who do you think are the best team at the moment? City because they are top, or United because they were top 6 months ago?
_____
United
So you're saying Liverpool are the 6th best team in the league, Arsenal the 7th best.... Newcastle the 4th?!
ohh and Billybob saying United will continue to make history is alot more likely then saying they wont win anything for the next 10 years...
Though if you really believe it put some money down you would make a killing!
I really don't think it matters who the best team is in October
United are hardly ever top at Christmas yet have won the league in two thirds of all the seasons of the Premier League.
ohh and Billybob saying United will continue to make history is alot more likely then saying they wont win anything for the next 10 years...
___
he was repeating what i said above
and in case anyone forgot, this is the table from a year ago
http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2010-2011/table/2010-10-30
and how it ended
http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2010-2011/table
so exactly a year ago United were in third and five points off the lead, and went on to win the league by nine points. So forgive me if I don't start worrying yet.
Wow look at liverpool, 9 games, 9 points.. 18th.. !!
City's record is almost identical to Chelseas was, although they have played a game less. Our record is actually better this season than last.
There will only be a power shift if City were ever to surpass United's trophy haul.
that won't happen in our lifetimes.

United will always, or at least in my lifetime, be the biggest club in Manchester. The 'best' team is always going to be subjective...City are factually the best team at the moment, the moment changes from week to week, but as it stands, City are the best team! In my opinion you can not argue against that. With regards to Everton and Liverpool, Everton were the best team in the PL, as proven by their league position...it is impossible to compare those teams overall considering the fact that Everton did not play in the CL.
---------------------
GregUnited
As it stands, you still think United are the best team in the league because they won it last year? Using your logic, imagine this scenario...City are 25 points ahead with 9 games remaining this year, your logic states that United are still the best team because they won the PL last year..do you really believe that?
---------------------------
and just for good measure this was after 9 games last season
http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/premier-league/2010-2011/table/2010-10-24
I really don't think it matters who the best team is in October
-----------------------------------------
Statistically you're right. In the 19 seasons since the Prem started, only 6 times has the team top at the end of October gone on to win the league.
Also, if United had lost all 9 games this season and were sat bottom of the league, do you think it would be logical to say that United are the 'best team' so far? The fact that you are using last seasons positions as a gauge would suggest that you would still say United are the best team..is that not ridiculous? I think it is, I think that using last season as a gauge is nonsensical, this is a new season, different teams, different players etc etc...
I think Billypool that United are in a better position than they were this time last season, in which by the way they went on to win the league by 9 points with games to spare. And it would have been more but they wanted to time the win with cup final day.
Well United are the current Champions - if being current Champions can't be used as an indicator as to which is the best team, I don't know what can be.
I wouldn't say it goes off current league positions, and especially so early in the league. Simply because we'd have to revise our list of who the best teams are right through to who the worst teams are on pretty much a weekly basis.
Using the logic that there will only be a power shift when City win more trophies implies that Liverpool were still the best team in England from 1992-2011 by way of number of major honours won.
BillyBob but your method is even worse...
After the 2nd game of the season Tottenham were rock bottom... so at that moment they were the worst team in the league ?!
We have played very few games, we have had different opponents and differing in home and away games...
Concievably some club could play the top 6 away from home at the start of the season lose all the games and be rock bottom of the table even if they are the best outside the top 6 under your system they would be classed as the worst side in the league!!
The system you are using is far too flawed to make an accurate judgement with....
I don't think anyone can deny that City are the form team, by some distance. But plenty of people have made fools of themselves by declaring a team champions before Christmas. When the knock out stages of the Champions league kick in on top of FA Cup quarters and semis , thats when teams show their mettle. United do it year in year out, Arsenal bottle it every season, who knows how City will cope.
yes exactly brummerdickens , why do you think United fans celebrated 19 so much ???
Power shift, changing of the guards, call it what you will but City are there to be taken seriously.
Utd and Fergie have done it all, worn the t shirt, City are just establishing themselves as a side to be taken seriously. They are more than noisy neighbours.
It means one thing, a challenge. The same challenge Roman and Mourinho posed which Fergie overcame.
Fergie will now need to reinforce his side to match City and in doing so could match or even surpass Barca.
The defeat may still be raw but it may have come as a blessing.

Of course the idea of 'who is he best' would change from week to week, I just have a problem with the idea that because United won the league last year that they are automatically the 'best team', regardless of the league standing.
Maybe the whole idea is flawed, and we should wait until the season is decided before declaring who the best team is! Until then, United will be the best team in England, even if they lost all 38 games...Liverpool were the best team in Europe throughout 2005/6, they were not, but this logic says they were...
Common sense needs to be applied, City are 5 points clear, they have just beaten United at OT, how does that equate to United are the best team at the moment?
my opinion (and it is only that) is that the whole abu dhabi interest in football is all down to their big rivalry with Qatar, who themselves have invested heavily in European clubs (Malaga , Paris and also a large deal with Barca). This is all totally connected with the 2022 world cup. So I am afraid we are going to have to put up with "the project" till then. After this point, the investment will end as will the arabian interest in football, and most likely City will be sold, albeit in a very healthy state. So batten down the hatches it will be a rough ten years. Of course United successfully saw of Chelsea who had a similarly superior spending power. And there is the possibility that United themselves could be taken over by rich owners (maybe even the Qataris). But worse case scenario is we have to put up with the neighbours being very noisey for the next ten years or so. Within which time , they would be lucky to accrue half the league titles we have.
