CutMeAndIBleedRed,

Here's some questions you might like to take a look at & think about:

Is last week in the past or present?

Have Liverpool lost ground in the last week?

Is this a sign of progress or regress?

So form, as you like to use, covers a 2 game period?! Arsenal lost last week and we drew so, actually we made up ground on one of your contender!!!!!!!

"Its not a "magical" cut off point, its one based on common sense. As i said (for about the 5th time), i cannot recall any team sitting in 7th, in late January, ever making 4th spot. This would make your "contention" for 4th even more unlikely".

2007/08 Liverpool were in 7th in January, by May they finished 4th.

It is a magical cut off point that you've just made up, just like 'Liverpool are favourites to finish 4th'. Where did you get that gem from?

You think that Arsenal are contenders for 4th, and Liverpool aren't because they're a massive 1 point behind.

As shown above going from 7th to 4th in between Jan and May is achievable. Just because you aren't aware of it happening doesn't mean it didn't.

It's on the official premier league website. Go on league tables, enter the year and month and there you go.

red_man23,

I'll await the link, but if you are right then you have a good point. This is the perfect type of evidence we need for a debate like this.

When you provide the link, i'll have a look at the games played/points difference to compare then & now.

' So you couldnt even answer 1 of my questions - and you have the cheek to call me thick.'

MY GOD YOU KEEP DOING IT!!!!!!!

YOU: 'Have Liverpool lost ground in the last week?'

ME: 'Arsenal lost last week and we drew so, actually we made up ground on one of your contender!!!!!!!'

To answer your other question (which i sort of did, but you're a bit too dense to work it out):

Is last week in the past or present? - it's the past, but is also part of the FORM you are interested in.

Is this a sign of progress or regress? - Gaining a point on one of our so called non-rivals in progression.

Why are you proving my points for me now, stick to your own flimsy argument!!!

Defoe is a goal scorer....and as a pure goal scorer he is one of the best in the league

I'm not sure if you know this, but because you are 7th & not 5th, you need to make up ground on 3 teams - not just 1.

So even though you feel you have progressed, you are FACTUALLY further behind 4th spot than you were before the weekend.

In effect, if this "form" continues, you would not finish 4th, Chelsea would.

Its not rocket science.

Its not Liverpool v Arsenal, its Liverpool versus Arsenal, Chelsea & Newcastle, 2 of which gained 2pts on you.

Not the brighest spark are you, fella?

In on www.premierleague.com, the official site for the PL. Then go on league tables, at the top it will give you the option of years and months. Select the year and January. Then press search.

Chelsea will take some catching in 4th place IMO....both Arsenal and LFc seem to have more fundamental flaws in their game and less quality in depth

red_man23,

I'm on the site & at the top i have:

Home / Matchday News & Features / Clubs / Players / Gaming etc

I have no option for league tables.

Agreed, Chelsea can also buy top quality players due to their recent successes and oil money. If I was a fan of either though I'd be more worried if I was a gooner - this could be the start of an even longer barren period!

He's got his flaws, but if Wenger left I could see them having real problems far worse than trying to scrape 4th.

red_man23,

Its alright, ive got it.

And as i suspected Liverpool had a game in hand which would have taken them straight into the Top 4.

Whilst i will put my hands up at being wrong about no club has ever been 7th & reached 4th, i think you'll agree the fact the games are not level changes the debate slightly.

As it stands, Liverpool are 7th, 5 points of fof 4th, on level games played - that is a far cry away from the position they were in, in 2007/2008 season, where they were very much still in the driving seat.

Oh & CutMeAndIBleedRed, i'll bookmark this article so we can see at the end of the season who was thick & who was right all along.

You'll never be able to compare two seasons in order to prove something is impossible. You set the criteria of having never seen anyone finish 4th after being 7th in January. Now you want to introduce other factors to prove your point. Is that the distinct sound of goal posts being moved?

Basically you're saying we're out of the running for fourth because we're 5 points off. Arsenal are in the running because they're 4 points off. Have you considered our form after Christmas and Arsenal's usual February/March collapse? Chelsea's form has hardly been consistent either.

You're right - it's not rocket science, but you seem to wrapping yourself in knots!

Just remind me who you think are the contender for 4th spot? Chelsea and ARSENAL (not newcastle - that was someone else remember!) wasn't it? So YOU THINK Arsenal are contender to come 4th. We got 1 point closer to one of the team YOU THINK will come forth! So does that mean we have gained or lost ground on one of YOUR contenders for forth? OR do you now only think Chelsea can get forth and therefore catching Arsenal makes no difference?

Do you get it now dear do you need me to draw some pretty pictures?

And please feel free to book mark away - if we don't come forth, what will you prove? Nothing - I am saying we are contenders for forth as long as we stay with a few wins difference we are contenders, whether we get it or not!

I already acknowledge the debate changes slightly. But i said all along i would need to look at the link to compare the circumstances. And i was right to.

The problem you have is not necessarily the 5point gap, its the fact you are competing with 3 other teams over the 5pt gap.

Its not just a case of Chelsea slipping up, you need Arsenal & Newcastle to as well - not quite as straight forward as winning one game in hand (like 2007/2008) is it?
