Do you agree with _Thunderkiss_65_ (U2407) opinion on Paul Scholes?

RVP's been this good for years, obviously when you're injured it's difficult to play football. The best way would be to ask neutrals, the vast majority would say van Persie without a doubt. It's a bit like in a Messi/Ronaldo debate you'll only find a few United fans thinking Ronaldo is the better player

And that one man should win the Footballer of the Year award.

mmmmm, bit of a strange one mate, i think if silva deserves it for his performances at the start of the season ( since the start of the new year he has been pretty shocking) then scholes deserves to be up there for the second half of the season.

As I said, it will likely be a close run thing between Rooney and RVP.

However, it will not be a travesty if RVP does not win it. If you have seen Rooney's contributions our title challenge this year, you will understand why.

You are not one of the stupid little goo nies that plague this site, so stop acting like one.

I don't think he deserves it but when it's voted for means Silva will probably win it

You are such a WUM. I'd tell you to take you rose-tinted Man Utd specs off, but I think they're welded to your face...

I'm not willing to put in the legwork, but I imagine if you took away Rooney's goals from Utd this season, their league position would suffer. As it would Arsenal.

It's ridiculous to hold this 'one man team' argument - strikers are there to score goals, the more the better.

WAYNE ROONEY: PENALTY MASTER!

posted on 11/4/12

Van Persie has been on a different level this year. However, Silva's loss of form could put Rooney second. I think Carrick and maybe Evans should be in team PLTOTS.

Sorry but I just find it laughable that all we've heard all season is how Arsenal are a one man team that would be fighting relegation were it not for Van Persie.

And now as the end of the season approaches and Arsenal are in 3rd place, all of a sudden Wayne Rooney is challenging RVP for player of the year?

Ridiculous.

Rooney isnt player of the year this season for me. I think that RVP is a shoe-in for it and Valencia has been better than Wayne for us this year.

and i find it laughable that just because RVP has had a very decent season for arsenal in a mediocre team by their standards, it would be a travesty if he didnt win POTY.

if he wins it, then fair play to him, but to say anyone else winning it is a travesty is just a joke mate.

The subject of this article would have been far better served by having been posted on the Chelsea, Spurs or Liverpool boards.

yeah he's had a 'decent' season

More goals and more assists than rooney, in a worse team. He has scored the better goals, no doubt.

Surely one man on his own who comes 3rd must be better than one of eleven men who finish 1st?

When did RVP last score though? Slacker!

The Camals dad was not bigger than mine and Rooney has statistically not has as good a season as RVP

But he is english will be part of the league champions and that always counts for something

not at all, it just shows he has stood out in a mediocre team.
without RVP arsenal would be struggling to fill a europa league spot.
just because he has been arsenals best player and saved their season, again it doesnt make him the best player in the league.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

and Man C would be clear runaway leaders if not for Rooney at Man U......so you can say the same for Man U...mediocre.......

and as Arsenal being a one man team, he has not scored in 4 matches and we have won 3 of them...

also who supplies the passes for him to score ?? its a team effort.......or do you believe the media as usual.....

before you slate a team I advise you watch them instead of reading what the media says......its called being impartial........and intelligent enough to think for yourself......

read again, it says VERY decent season.

and there is more to a players game than goals and assists.

for me link up play is just as important as assists and the also the ability to bring other players into the game.

but then again, being a closet united fan who watches every game you would know all of this

I think that Rooney also has a bigger influence on the way that United play than RVP does on Arsenal. Obviously Rooney has played deeper than RVP this season and he is frequently the heartbeat of the team - which is a plus for him. Even then though I would still say that RVP has had the better season.

Exactly. And some clown above thinks I have United specs welded to my face.

I have no problem with RVP winning it. It is Lexington's comment of it being a travesty if he didn't that I have a problem with.

tkae Rooney out of united team and we will always score goals, up until recently if you had taken RVP out of arsenals 11, honestly, where would the goals have come from?

I see myself as a football fan, and so yes, I do watch Man Utd.
Do you not consider assists to be part of link-up play? To me, it is the most important aspect of link-up play - the final pass - often the hardest one to make.

And for bringing others into play, both players do this - both like to drop deep. Whilst RVP comes into the midfield, Rooney enjoys standing next to the centre-backs, collecting the ball off their toes and making reeeeaallly useful passes from there.

-----------------------------

the final pass is always the one credited as the assist, however due to Rooney playing deeper at times this season he is no longer the player always playing the "final ball", however he has often been involved in the buildup prior to the final pass, but according to the stats this goes unnoticed.
