Carrick for England this summer?

Surely he has to go?

if we carry on with 442 ( ) then carrick wont fit into the side

Do Manchester United Fans even consider Rooney to be their best player this season?

Yes. Even when he isn't in his best form, he scores important goals. When he is in form, he is the best player in the PL.

Should he win footballer of the year? Well he has to be up there. He has been more conistant than Mata or Silva, scored almost as many as RVP, and is likely to win the PL.

I don't see why he shouldn't win it.

He fits into this formation with United, why won't he fit with England?

He has played that position for a long period of the season and we are top of the league. Why cant he do it for England?

i think Carrick deserves a position more than lampard, gerrard, barry, milner and wilshere (if fit).
you could maybe argue a midfield of carrick and parker could work well, parker to break up the play and carrick to be the distributor.

Well you said it yourself. He has scored ALMOST as many as RVP.

So, you think that the footballer of the year award should go to the person who scores the most goals?

Right dummy you are then.

When it is between two strikers of similar ability, then yes.

People on here just love taking one comment and making out like that is the only point a person is saying, so they can 'prove them wrong'.

Take a step back from your Man Utd bubble and you will see that RVP is the clear winner. I am not talking about reading articles by journos who rate Rooney as the best 'cos he is English.

There is nothing remotely similar between Rooney and RVP.

Oh the hypocrissy, staggering beyond belief.

For the last time, you mindless moron, I have no problem with RVP winning it. What part of this, does you pea sized brain fail to comprehend?

...Ok i'm done. Have a nice day.

for 442 to work you need two holding midfielders and all attacking play needs to come from the wingers tucking in and fullbacks bombing on imo

I cant see stuart pearce or harry being brave enough to try that out

Play carrick in a 443 then he, parker and one of gerrard/lampard can be accommodated although this would require wingers who are disciplined and defensively minded to prevent the fullbacks from becoming exposed

In terms of attacking players it's

1. RvP
2. Rooney

But they'll give it to Rooney because his team won a trophy.

Hi All, the answer to this is a frankly a no brainer.

RVP .

Take RVP out of the team and you would.be *insert childish comment*

Duncanedwards:

Have you thought where UTD would be if you 'took Rooney out of the team'? im guessing probably not.

This is not an argument, it is the most erroneous way to make a point. football is played with 11 players.

Probably much further ahead than City as all Rooney's goals were penalties and scoring from 12 yards is a doddle

Why do people even discuss who is going to win footballer of the year. Van Persie has been the best player in the league without doubt. He has consistently scored and assisted goals throughout the season and carried a crap team on his shoulders to 3rd spot. I know that there have been shambolic decisions like giving Bale and Giggs the award in the past and I wouldn't be surprised to see another shocking decision when Phil Jones wins the young player of the year award but everybody knows RVP has been the best player this season and he will win the award comfortably because of that

So you think Man Utd would still be top of the pile if Rooney wasn't in the team do you?

Rooney is as important to us as RVP is to Arsenal, do not be fooled because the rest of our team is still good.

The fact is, it's Arsenal fans on here proclaiming it HAS to be RVP, personally I wouldn't care less as long as we win the league. But the likes of Rooney, RVP, Kompany, Silva, Toure, Ba, Krul, Brittan and Vorm have all been great.

But NOBODY has stood out like an Henry or Ronaldo ever did, so to say he must win it is just blind ignorance.

it's not blind arrogance, it's blatantly obvious RVP has been the best player this season and he'll win the award by a distance.
