How can United win the derby?

vidic was colossal last season, was only sent off once in the league (incorrectly at that), made forty seven appearances and also scored five times, all crucial goals to boot. he was an integral part of the defence of a title winning side who also reached the champions league final and coped for large parts of the campaign with his centre back partner constantly changing due to ferdinand's injuries. until his injury he was far and away the best centre back in the league.

Vidic has been amazing since the 07/08 season. So no I am not basing my views on one season I am basing it on the fact Vidic has been top class since 07, he has carried this form on up until the point he was injured.

If we are going off ability alone I would go for Vidic, if we are including age in this I think you would be stupid not to go for Kompany.

Vidic may have 3 seasons at the top but it all depends on how he recovers from his current injury, if he doesn't reach his previous form then he may play as a backup for United rather then getting a guaranteed place in the starting 11. I would seriously feel for Evans if he is replaced by a Vidic who will never be the same again

Opinions aside, our defensive record last season says otherwise.

city's mentality and formations last season ensured that you were always going to have the lowest goals conceded in the league, we actually did some attacking.

posted on 17/4/12

Not if we didn't have defenders of a good enough quality to back up our formations.

And the fact that we also scored more goals than Europe's Darlings last season suggests we did a bit of attacking too.

vidic was also 24 when united signed him, and after a couple of games fitted seamlessly into united's team and the legaue in general. in kompany's first season at city they were in danger of relegation until mid april.

vidic came in and provided that steal in defence that worked in premier league and champions league.

Not may teams go to 3 champions league finaals unbeaten in fact winning most of the games.

I suppose joining an established force in Europe rather than a mid table pl club would make that transition easier...

posted on 17/4/12

vidic joined a united side in transition who had gone out of europe in december and had just been potted by a city team containing trevor sinclair.

There's a lot of truth to that statement but that's what happens when your CEO tells the world and his wife that the manager will be sacked if he doesn't get a top 4 position.

so finishing in the top four after having spent hundreds of millions of pounds was considered an achievement going into last season? david moyes managed that with marcus bent up front.

If memory serves, VK joined a City side that still had Michael Ball at left back! Or were we on to Wayne Bridge at that point? Either way are United ever not in 'transition' according to you lot?

The Toad Moyes did, and then nearly got relegated the season after...

You lot are pathetic.

Kompany is a very good defender, so is Vidic, obviously Vidic has the much better CV, when either player is missing from their team they are considerably weakened. Boy did we miss Vidic until Rio returned to form.

The fact is, Vidic has won a LOT of honous, certainly 10 fold on Kompany, and at the end of the day, what is football about if it's not the trophies you ahve won?

largely down to the fact that he coudn't afford players of the calibre of aguero and nasri the summer after finishing fourth.

posted on 17/4/12

I hope with another year of experience for the younger plays we can develop into the 07-08 team and win the champions league beating barca on the way.

By the way I am not saying players are to be judged on what they have won, but when you have captained a club to league titles and lifted European Cups, that deserves some respect.

I would agree that Vidic probably is the best cb in the league, but I don't think he's head and shoulders above VK, not much to pick between the two imo.

As for Everton, I think our owners were trying to build stronger foundations, rather than be one hit wonders like Everton or Blackburn.

Going into last season, Mancini had not spent 100's of millions as he was trying to get rid of some of the excess baggage that Hughes had bequethed him.

If Fergie's successor is told to win the league in his first full season then he might find himself looking for a new job in the Summer.

there is a substantial difference between winning the league and finishing in the top four though.

If a Man Utd manager ever spends 500m on players and doesn't win the PL, I guarentee you he would be sacked.

Don't be so up Mancini's aarse, if your owners get a whiff of Jose being availavle, they will drop him like a hot potato.

Binky being stupid again.

if mancini inexplicably doesn't win the league this season he'll have to be placed on the witness relocation program for his own safety.

Can you actually name a City manager that's spent £500m? If you can't do us a favour and shut-tfu.

Okay I don't know Cities figures inside out, but the FACT is, opver 500m has been spent on players since the takeover.

You cannot deny he hasn't spend huge, more than any other manager in PL history in that space of time.

I like the bloke, he is a good tactition and he knows the game inside out, I just don't think he has the right characteristics to be in the elite bracket of managers.
