Nah, optimistic would be expecting us to be clicking after a handful of games.

Clicking, yes. Improving one aspect without having to neuter another i dont feel is so much.
Improving on last year too much to ask
You win more games with a clean sheet that by concecind 2 or 3 goals per game.
Sort out the defence first, we gave the attack to make it work once we do

Over the longterm I agree, if it's a handful of games only, then it's worth it
I do reckon around the halfway point Lampard will settle on 433 & run with it. Both the 4231 & 343 have only worked circumstantially for him, the 433's been a good middle ground & we've got the personnel to play it a couple of different ways. Would've been handy to have retained one of Barkley or RLC (for depth) though.
Once again, it looks ,to me at least, that its actually player ability thats improving the team. Not any kind of managerial magic work. The players who were leaking goals with Lampard didn't looks so bad before him. Nor did they improve at any point under him.
Zouma improved over the course of last season
Yes you generally need good players to do well
Last season is completely separate to this one IMO. Different circumstances in basically every aspect.

Nice.
Or you could admit managers are there to elevate their abilities and to get them to play better than individuals and more as a team.

I think our defensive problems are down to a mixture of players and how we execute 4 2 3 1.
We may still be able to make 4 2 3 1 work if we can execute it.

I'm not pretending anything. Who has he improved? Zouma hasn't improved. He's been good. He isn't any better than we knew he was. He just got more time on the pitch.
Mount? Tammy? CHO? Mount is just growing as a player naturally. Luckily he had a great start and earned himself a lot of time.
One issue I find is not picking the right players for the system used against particular opponents.
Like it was obvious this game wouldn’t suit Havertz, which even someone like me could tell. Similarly when we went all defensive after they brought Pogba and Cavani on, I think the team needed Kovacic.
Jorginho played well against Palace; he suits those kind of games. But I don’t think he was more suited to today’s situation than Kovacic.
