Hendersons been played everywhere in midfield.
His 'natural' position is right mid but Sunderland used him centrally when injuries hit and Pearce used him as a DM as there weren't better options. He played fullback for us the other week.
He's versatile but I'm wondering if all this position swapping is stifling his development in the short term. Can't hurt long term but it might be denting his confidence.
Sorry I thought he was a central midfielder. Well he really doesn't look up to it at all.
He's got bags and bags of technical skill. All his passed are one touch, sharp and accurate.
He doesn't seem to have enough of an aggressive or confident drive though. Directness when needed. If he can add that then we've got a top player. If not, we've got Carrick
Its funny that a Spurs fan and Everton fan are having a laugh at our expense

Yes, & we're not alone
Umm I think you're being a bit hopeful there. Ah well only time will tell!

Absolute garbage again redconn. Henderson is a central midfielder, always has been and I'd bet always will be. Like many young players when they begin their careers professionally they are played in the wide positions, so mistakes are not as costly and so they can get experience on the pitch. I could name a very long list of examples but I'll give you a few you might have heard of instead, not that examples should be needed. Carragher, Gerrard and Kelly.
Anyone with any knowledge whatsoever could watch Henderson on a football pitch and see he is a central midfielder.

nonsense, ask a Sunderland supporter
-------------------------------------------------------
I don't need to ask a Sunderland supporter. Is Gerrard a right-midfielder? No? Why not, he played his younger days at right-midfield. Ask any Liverpool supporter.
Is Carragher a full-back? Why not, he played his younger days at full-back, ask any Liverpool supporter.
I find it quite frankly ridiculous that a football fan, looks at Henderson and cannot see his position is central midfield. In fact, if I were you, I'd be highly embarrassed.
I think he's crap in the centre. He's wasted there.
I like his runs down the right personally
A player is a right mid for 19.5 years, then due to injuries gets used as cover at centremid for 9 months.
Now he's a centremid and always has been.
whatever.
"A player is a right mid for 19.5 years, then due to injuries gets used as cover at centremid for 9 months."
Be ashamed, be very ashamed.
Henderson is wasted on the right. Especially when we live in a day and age that every fullback has pace to burn.
He neither has the pace nor trickery to beat his fullback and drops so deep because of our inept midfield.
He is much better in the centre where he has more options to choose from and that engine of his can be put to very good use.
Also those one touch passes of his can be put to very good use in the middle than on the right.
like I said TOOR, ask a Sunderland supporter.
He was always a right mid.
This centremid role is new to him and he's just learning it.
Not opinion, just a fact.
Maybe the centre will be where he ends up, maybe not. We use him in both.
I can settle this for you lads - Henderson is jarg - full stop.
Left, right, centre, anywhere you choose, he's jarg.
Happy to help

nice one
"In the 2009–10 season, Henderson broke into the Sunderland first team and made several Premier League appearances. He scored his first senior goal for the club against Birmingham City in the Carling Cup third round.[11] He then went on to score his first Premier League goal against Manchester City on 19 December 2009.[12]
Henderson spent the majority of the season on the right side of midfield but played centrally in the absence of Lee Cattermole; his versatility and consistency earning him a new five year contract on 23 April 2010, keeping him with the club till 2015.[13] He also went on to win the Young Player of the Year award for the 2009–10 season.[

Everybody knows this redconn. As I said most young central players ply their trade on the outside gaining experience where their mistakes are less important, until they are ready for the centre, which looks to be the case with Henderson now, as he captained England U21's into a major tournament in central midfield and has played well in most games played in the centre for us and looked out of place on the right.
so we're in agreement
He's a right mid who's been used in the centre to cover injuries due to his versatility.
Pearce used him as a pure DM to cover for Smalling and Jones if they went forward and to act as protection for the back 4. Is he a DM now too?

I've explained why I believe this to be wrong, so there's no point going over and over it.
"Pearce used him as a pure DM to cover for Smalling and Jones if they went forward and to act as protection for the back 4. Is he a DM now too?"
No he didn't. He used him as a central midfielder. Just because he wasn't an attacking midfielder doesn't mean he was a defensive midfielder. I watched every game and despite people ridiculing Henderson's performances in the competition, he actually did very well in the centre. Passed the ball very well, kept possession and showed a great engine, getting up and down the pitch.
I'm done. You haven't even come close to convincing me and vice versa.
