Clough is a good shout

What he did at Derby and Forest was unreal.

Does the Leeds debacle go against Clough though?
****

No, the players just wouldnt play for him.

What goes against Clough is that he couldn't seem to cut it without Taylor. Make you wonder who was really pulling the strings together in that one.

Does the Leeds debacle go against Clough though?

........................

Not really.

If the Leeds players had bought into what he was about, we may never have seen the dominance of Liverpool.

Once the trouble makers left, Leeds went downhill very quickly.

Yes Michels was a special manager, not just his achievements of winning but his whole philosophy which you can trace all the way to Barca now.

Alex Ferguson broke how many transfer records to win his first title?

not to mention how he was lucky to keep his job!

add to that his tactical naivety again and again in Europe.

2 champions league trophies in 25 years!!! AWFUL and admits it himself

inheriting a winning team should count against when looking for best manager.
Avram Grant nearly won the CL with CFC due to what he inherited

SAF has consistently rebuilt teams and won trophies and teh league. His weakness has been europe although we still managed to get into the latter stages etc.

Depends on the judging criteria I guess. I cant be bothered but if we did a points system giving a set amount of points for achievements at various stages in comps over a number of years then the winner would be the one with most points

having said that in Tennis, for example, you can be world number 1 for consistently reaching the quarters and semi's but never actually winning a major

At the time Revie and Clough were having a very public personal slagging match. Clough was slating Leeds, its players its style, credibility, everything. Leeds were mad to offer him the job. He was crazy to take it. I doubt under the same circumstances AF or BP would have faired any better at Leeds.

What an idiot.

In 1977, Bob Paisley paid a British transfer record to bring Dalglish to Liverpool. And won his first title as a manager.

Frank

I doubt we will ever again see any manager match what Pep did in four years.

Absolutely staggering.
