yes wayne scores goals, but with the way we play and the chances we create ( valencia verses blacburn last season 15 crosses alone) rooney should be in the same brackets as ronny and messi, not missing out to RVP for golden boot

yes this will get some raging, but as much as we/the media etc love wayne, he is one player who IMO has held UTD back in terms of style of play and is one of the reasons for our lacklustre season in terms of trophies last season

And Rooney has scored more goals than Tevez. And Rooney brings far more to the team than Tevez.

When he was breaking the goal scoring records he was a forward in a front three, which is what we are probably going back to now.

I also agree that to say Wayne is better than Tevez is typical bias but it's nothing new. We believe our players are world class despite constantly failing at international level.

I very much doubt it. Our midfield can't handle playing with four, when up against a 4-5-1, so I doubt SAF will have them playing with three.

ronny scored the most for portugal in the euro's but also missed a fair few and as everything was geared towards him he may have got some personal glory but imo limited the team

I think we all know Wayne isn't performing anywhere near to what we hoped or thought he would. The goals have been great but he should be the best number ten in the country. Hopefully the new arrivals will spur him on because at his age and with no major injury background there is no real excuse for the loss of pace and control.

But their international goal scoring record is pretty much the same, 2.6 goals per game.

And when you consider the quality of players each one has around him, then this is more kudos to Wazza.

For me the team is what it is about, not personal glory for individual players. Give me a better team set up than we had last season and a couple of trophies and I wouldnt care if roo hadnt scored more than 10.

As I said earlier the test would be how another player would have coped, and i would argue that even carroll would have scored a bagful for us with the chances we create

As for shearer being the best striker, although he wasnt for me overall, it kind of reinforces my point that if you set up the team a specific way a player will excel but at the detriment of the team

I suppose it depends what you look at. For me goals are not the measure of a good player overall. The likes of Inzagi/rvn etc were limited players overall but found the net.

He will continue to be poor, the longer England has a supply chain that consists of Barry, Parker, Milner, Young, Lampard and Gerrard.

Vidischin - I agree re the midfield and as I have consistently said I do think roo's dual role at UTD has simply left him knackered (add to this his lifestyle and build)

However he seems to forget the basics, wheras not so the case with messi

I agree the players round Wayne at international level are poor but that doesn't excuse his poor touch, passing, lack of pace and slow response times. If this is down fitness then it's bang out of order that he's allowed to smoke and eat what he likes. He should take some responsibility and curb it for the years he is a well paid athlete.

It was when Rooney got injured in 2010 that cost us the title. Do you not remember us needing Berba to step up against Blackburn and he was abysmal?

We were flying in the CL and would have flown through the semi to play Inter in the final but for a ridiculous implosion against Bayern and the Blackburn game that berba may have sat on the crossbar for untimatly cost us the title

We missed a fully fit Rooney badly for the closing stages.

That's the last time i really remember him being on fire. No reason we know of why he isn't getting close to his best but hopefully the competition from world class acquisitions will make him step up.

Plus he never performs at Everton anyway.
