Danny Murphy was better than Shearer and Lampard
From a Chelsea point of view Graham Roberts, Le Beouf and Ballack (lamps obviously)
Phil Neale and Alvin Martin both took a great penalty a few years back.
Arjen Robben hardly seemed to miss, then he missed against Chelsea! But Dutch players have good technique and rarely miss.
That Valencia were a fantastic team but I remember us easily beating them in the group stages round that period.
Matt Le Tissier scored from the spot 47 times from 48 attempts
He has to be the best the league has seen. Surely no one has come close to this record
Oh yes, that goal was superb!
And it was Barca he destroyed in the semi.
I just read on his wiki that he won best European midfielder two seasons running. Superb player.
This current crop are better than what they had, as I dot think they had as many good players all in one side, and Xavi is better than anything they've ha before.
But players like Mendieta and Raul would certainly grace this side.
Surprised no one has mentioned Denis Irwin, only missed one, and put the rebound in himself.
"But Dutch players have good technique and rarely miss."
I thought the Dutch have a worse record than us at penalty shoot-outs?

Amazing.
Still can Shearer beat that?

Absolutely, another one i rated back in the day was Fernando Hierro, a beast of a player.

Le Tissier
Molby
Aldridge
all spring to mind
Hierro, great player, and another one on our list of great penalty takers.
This is a blog of the top 15 peno takers of all time.
Barry is in at 15 and Ronaldo's record is also excellent.

Ronaldo is good, i remember his miss against Barcelona though, good job we beat them on the second leg!
Ronaldo has missed some big penalties though, 2 CL semis and a final.
Le Tisser wins hands down for me! Shame he was such a lazy unambitious sod. I come from Southampton and would often see him in pubs on the water front 20 minutes after games! Could have been the greatest English player ever if he had wanted to.

I heard he never went to play for the big clubs because he would have to turn up for training. Whereas at Southampton he turned up whenever he wanted!
As a United fan i have to endure 3 missed penalties in the last couple of weeks. That subject has been quite hot topic on our boards especially the Nani miss.

Oh no... How I feel for United... I'm sure you'll be rewarded a further 10-12 unjust pens this season like you do every year.
Get over it

Ha, I remember seeing Le Tiss is bars in Bournemouth on a Friday night!
I also saw John Motson in a night club in years ago in the VIP lounge, I sneaked in and drunkenly said 'you're John Motson!?' and replied 'Yes young man'.
When Le Tiss was interviewed back in the day he always said why should he have to leave his club to play for England more. I tend to agree.
Players like him, Hoddle and Fowler should have played far more for England.
