It's difficult to win football games when you don't dominate possession. Not impossible but very hard. It's also very difficult for the opposition to score when you keep the ball well.
This is Barca's greatest strength. They work teams so hard that when they finally get the ball they inevitably lose it straight away because they're all knackered.
If only we could have beaten an easy Spurs without Modric at OT this weekend

Had Rooney started in place of Giggs and Anderson / Clevs in place of Scholes, I'm confident we would have done.
We have to forget it now. No point dwelling on what happened last weekend. It's all about the next match now. And Spurs will probably go and lose this weekend knowing them.
A fortnight is a long time in football. Look at Liverpool. Playing poorly all season and a lot of supporters were demanding Rodgers leave and then they tonk Norwich and all of a sudden he's the best thing since sliced bread.
Same with Spurs. Drawing at home to West Brom and Norwich and AVB is booed by his fans. Now he's a genius.

Only because like you and many here, they were looking at results and not how they play. Liverpool played a lot of their oppositions out of the park and spurs were playing a completely new formation after buying 5 new starters and as of the last 2 games being playing teams off the park too.

Agreed. Liverpool were having similar results under Hodgson but there is a number of differences.
1. Signings. Brendan Rodgers has signed a superior standard of player to Roy Hodgson. Brendan has signed young, hungry talented players compared to Hodgson's over-the-hill journeymen.
2. Style of play. Liverpools style of plat is far far superior in every way under Brendan Rodgers than it was under Hodgson. Liverpools style under Hodgson was like watching paint dry.
3. Media comments. Brendan Rodgers is open and honest and speaks well. Hodgson put his foot in his mouth at every opportunity. Brendan Rodgers lifts players that need lifting and gives players a kick up the behind when they need it too. Hodgson hust destroyed a few players.
4. Brendan Rodgers use of the youngsters is encouraging too.

Actually, what I was replying to someone saying that Cleverson wouldn't necessarily have been an improvement at Liverpool because it was just Newcastle B, not actually saying that Rooney should have started at Liverpool.

Look, I agree that Carrick and Cleverley would be a great midfield 3 and we may well see that but people are looking at the start of last season through rose tinted glasses and not the reasons it happened.

did you really suggest others have rose tinted glasses on.... do you read your own posts????... at times you sound deluded/demented in your defence of the obvious ffs

i confidently predict that unless Fergie gets his head out of his ar$e... we'll have our worst season since the 80's... crash out of Europe early and challenge for damn all domestically... Things really are that bad!!!

Again, why so negative? Our luck DID run out on Saturday. It's just as likely that our 'luck will run out' as it is that we'll start to click and hammer a team.

I was about to say this ^.
I think we were found out against Spurs after some good results masked our previous poor performances. I think there's more chance now that we'll turn it around than there is of us getting worse.
Whatever you say about SAF, he doesn't like losing, especially at home.
