Donald Trump has named former "never Trumper" Republican and Ohio Senator JD Vance as his vice-presidential nominee.
Republican National Convention (RNC) delegates formally selected Mr Vance, 39, on Monday after Trump announced on his social media platform he had chosen him after "lengthy deliberation and thought".
Mr Vance is a Yale-educated venture capitalist and author of the bestselling memoir-turned-film Hillbilly Elegy.
He has previously criticised his new running mate, once suggesting privately that Trump could be "America's Hitler", but has since become an ardent supporter.
In the 2022 midterm elections, he won a seat in the US Senate with Trump's endorsement - his first time being elected to public office.
A native of Ohio, Mr Vance gained attention after the release of Hillbilly Elegy, which tells of his blue-collar upbringing and how it affected his politics.
Trump said on the Truth Social platform that the book "championed the hardworking men and women of our country".
"As Vice President, J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," he continued.

England manager Gareth Southgate has resigned two days after defeat by Spain in the 2024 European Championship final.
The Three Lions lost 2-1 in Berlin on Sunday - their second consecutive Euros final defeat, having been beaten on penalties by Italy at Wembley three years ago.
Southgate, 53, managed his country for 102 games in eight years in charge. His contract was set to expire later this year.
"As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England," said Southgate.
"It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.
"But it's time for change, and for a new chapter."
Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham said the process to appoint Southgate's successor has started and "we aim to have our new manager confirmed as soon as possible".
He added the FA "have an interim solution in place if it is needed" and will not comment further on the process until a new boss is appointed.
England's next match is against the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League on 7 September.
BBC sports editor Dan Roan said FA sources suggested they were "very unlikely to restrict the selection process to just English managers".
Under-21 boss Lee Carsley could be a candidate for an interim solution.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter, and ex-Chelsea and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino are among the early favourites. There is also some speculation around ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel, who left Bayern Munich at the end of last season.
The GMB has narrowly lost its historic bid for union recognition at the Amazon warehouse in Coventry.
Some 49.5% of workers balloted voted in favour, while 50.5% voted against. The union needed a majority to vote in favour.
If the GMB had won it would have been the first time Amazon recognised a union in the UK.
The online giant would have been forced to negotiate with workers on issues such as pay and conditions.
In a statement, Amazon said it placed "enormous value on engaging directly" with staff.
"We look forward to continuing on that path with our team in Coventry," it added.
In January 2023, with a GMB membership of just 50, Coventry workers held the first ever Amazon strike in the UK.
It went on to organise a further 37 days of industrial action over the last year and by recruiting on the picket line, steadily built up its membership to more than 1,400 members out of the centre's estimated 3,000 plus workers.
In April the union launched a legal challenge against Amazon, claiming it used underhand tactics to encourage members to cancel their union membership.
On Wednesday it said that legal challenge would continue.
A search operation is under way to locate 16 missing crew members, 13 of whom are Indian, after an oil tanker capsized off the coast of Oman.
An Indian official told the BBC that the foreign ministry was coordinating the operation with Oman's maritime authorities.
Oman officials said late on Monday that the oil tanker - Prestige Falcon - had capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of its Ras Madrakah peninsula.
Three of the 16 missing crew members are Sri Lankan.
The Comoros-flagged vessel was on its way to the port of Aden in Yemen when it capsized.
Officials from Oman's Maritime Security Centre told Reuters news agency on Tuesday that the vessel remained "submerged, inverted" but didn't confirm if it had stabilised.
Oman's defence ministry, which runs the centre, did not respond to the BBC's questions about whether the contents of the tanker had spilled into the sea.

The OFC Men's Nations Cup, known as the OFC Nations Cup before the 2024 edition, is the primary association football competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), determining the continental champion of Oceania. The winning team became the champion of Oceania and until 2016 qualified for the FIFA Confederations Cup.
Historically, a very large gulf separated Australia and New Zealand from the smaller island competitors, and little attention was paid to the tournament by the rest of the football world. In fact, the 2012 OFC Nations Cup is the only edition to date not won by either New Zealand or Australia, being won by Tahiti instead.

Yoo Sang-chul (18 October 1971 – 7 June 2021) was a South Korean football player and manager. Yoo was regarded as one of the greatest South Korean midfielders of all time. He was selected as a midfielder of the 2002 FIFA World Cup All-Star Team and K League 30th Anniversary Best XI.
On 21 November 2019, Yoo announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which caused him to be hospitalised. He died on 7 June 2021 in Seoul at the age of 49.
An expert body set up to protect communities from the economic impact of tackling climate change says the closure of Scotland's only oil refinery is now "the most likely outcome".
The Just Transition Commission - appointed by the Scottish government - said that despite the Grangemouth refinery's closure being "clearly foreseeable" inadequate planning had left the town unprotected.
It was announced in November that Petroineos, the owner of the refinery, intended to cease operations by 2025 at Grangemouth, putting 400 jobs at risk.
The Scottish and UK governments are exploring how the site can continue to play a role in the switch away from fossil fuels.
But the report criticised a lack of effective planning and called for "an accelerated schedule of intensive work" from the two governments so they "can each still play a positive role in reshaping Grangemouth's economy".
Unions representing workers at the site say talks in recent days involving the Scottish and UK governments have given them fresh cause for optimism.
Marseille have signed forward Mason Greenwood from Manchester United until 2029 in a deal worth up to 31.6m euros (£26.6m).
Greenwood, 22, was a product of United's academy but has not played for the Premier League club since January 2022 and was on loan at Getafe last season.
Serious charges against him, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped in February 2023.
The French club were criticised by the Marseille mayor after their intention to sign Greenwood was made public.
He made his competitive senior debut for United in 2019 as a substitute against Paris St-Germain in the Champions League.
He scored 35 goals in 129 appearances and won his only England cap in 2020.
United have included a sizeable sell-on clause in their deal with Marseille.
Super Mario World, known in Japan as Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros. 4, is a 1990 platform game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The player controls Mario on his quest to save Princess Peach and Dinosaur Land from the series' antagonist Bowser and the Koopalings. The gameplay is similar to that of earlier Super Mario games; players control Mario through a series of levels in which the goal is to reach the goalpost at the end. Super Mario World introduces Yoshi, a ridable dinosaur who can eat enemies.
Super Mario World is often considered one of the best games in the series and is cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. It sold more than twenty million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling SNES game. It also led to an animated television series of the same name and a 1995 sequel, Yoshi's Island. The game has been re-released on multiple occasions: It was part of the 1994 compilation Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World for the SNES and was re-released for the Game Boy Advance as Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 in 2001, on the Virtual Console for the Wii, Wii U, and New Nintendo 3DS consoles, and as part of the Super NES Classic Edition. In 2019, it was released for Nintendo Switch Online as part of the classic games service.
Gamestation was a chain of retail shops in the United Kingdom selling used and new video games, and was the second largest specialist video game retailer in the United Kingdom until it was acquired by Game in May 2007, a group which owns many different gaming stores throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. In March 2012, the Game Group went into administration and a number of Gamestation stores, including the company's flagship store in Birmingham New Street were closed.
Game and Gamestation were purchased from the administrators by OpCapita. On 14 September 2012, it was announced that the Gamestation brand will disappear with all stores being rebranded as Game. On 18 November 2012, the Gamestation website closed and redirected to that of Game.
Everton's talks with the Friedkin Group over a takeover of the club have been called off after the two parties failed to reach an agreement.
The Friedkin Group, which also owns Serie A club Roma, had agreed a deal in principle to take over the club in June.
Chairman Dan Friedkin and his group were granted exclusivity in talks after a deal with Miami-based firm 777 partners broke down.
"The parties agree it is in both their interests for Everton to explore alternative options," said the Friedkin Group and Everton's current owner Blue Heaven Holdings in a joint statement.
The Friedkin Group, which injected £200m into the club and paid off a £158m loan to MSP Sports Capital and two local businessmen, will "remain a lender to the club", the statement added.
Farhad Moshiri, who bought a 49.9% share in Everton in 2016, is now its majority owner through Blue Heaven Holdings with a 94% stake.
Vietnam’s long-serving leader Nguyen Phu Trong has died "after a period of illness", marking the end of a political era.
The announcement came days after the government said he was stepping back to focus on his health and had handed duties to President To Lam.
As the general secretary of Vietnam’s ruling Communist Party since 2011, and at one point also double-hatting as president, Mr Trong was seen as one of the country’s most powerful leaders in decades.
Besides overseeing the supercharged growth of Vietnam’s economy, the 80-year-old was known for his “blazing furnaces” anti-corruption campaign.
Mr Trong’s death comes at a time of political turbulence for Vietnam’s Communist leadership. In recent months three top leaders quit following unspecified accusations of wrongdoing.
According to an official statement released on Friday, Mr Trong died "due to old age and serious illness".
It comes a day after the Vietnamese government said in a surprise announcement that Mr Trong needed time to “focus on active treatment” for an unspecified medical condition. It added that the president would take over Mr Trong’s duties in running the party’s central committee, politburo and secretariat.
On that same day, the government also awarded Mr Trong the Gold Star, the highest honour given in Vietnam, for contributions to the party and country.
Mr Trong was seen as recently as late June, when he welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin on a state visit.
But after that he failed to attend several events, including the official launch of a book compiling some of his speeches.
Eminem has earned his 11th number one album with The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
He joins a club of Taylor Swift, David Bowie, and U2, who have also had 11 chart-topping albums.
The US rapper’s 12th album – in which, he kills off his alter ego, Slim Shady – had a mixed critical reception.
But that doesn’t seem to have mattered this week on the charts.
Houdini, from the album, is number four on this week’s singles charts – it previously reached number one last month.
Ahead of its release, Eminem told fans The Death of Slim Shady was a "conceptual album" and the songs should be listened to in order.
Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department is still second on the albums chart, with popstar Griff making a new entry at number three, with debut album Vertigo.
Former world snooker champion Ray Reardon has died at the age of 91.
The Welshman, who had previously been diagnosed with cancer, died on Friday evening, his wife Carol said.
Reardon dominated snooker in the 1970s, claiming six world titles between 1970 and 1978.
Nicknamed 'Dracula' because of his distinctive widow's peak hairstyle, he became a star as the game enjoyed a television boom.
He won the first Pot Black series on BBC Two in 1969 and was made an MBE in the 1985 Queen's Birthday honours.
Reardon retired in 1991 aged 58 and later worked as a consultant for Ronnie O'Sullivan, helping him win the world title in 2004.
In 2016 the trophy awarded to the winner of the Welsh Open was named the Ray Reardon Trophy in his honour.
