James Anderson took six wickets before lunch in Lancashire's County Championship match against Nottinghamshire, eight days before his farewell Test appearance for England.

Anderson had figures of 6-19 as he ripped through the Notts batting line-up, taking all the wickets to fall in the morning session in Southport as the visitors reached 74-6.

It is the first match the 41-year-old has played all summer as he gears up for the first Test against West Indies at Lord's on 10 July.

That will be the 188th Test of his career - having made his debut in 2003 and taken 700 wickets, the most of any fast bowler in Test history.

Turkey were hanging on to a 2-1 lead in the face of relentless late pressure when, in the 94th minute, Austria mounted one last attack.
With the exhausted Turkey defence out on its feet, Baumgartner darted into space at the back post and directed his header downwards, the ball skidding off the wet turf and seemingly heading for the opposite corner... until 35-year-old Gunok found a way of getting across his goal to keep it out.

Captain Sir Tom Moore's daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband Colin have been disqualified from being charity trustees by the Charity Commission.

The Captain Tom Foundation was registered as a grant-making charity in 2020 to continue the late veteran’s NHS fundraising work after he raised £38.9m doing a sponsored walk at his home in Marston Mortaine, Bedfordshire.

Sir Tom died aged 100 in 2021 and the Charity Commission opened an inquiry in 2022 amid concerns about the foundation's management and independence from Sir Tom's family.

A statement from the family said they would not appeal against the decision but they "fundamentally disagree with the conclusions reached by the Charity Commission".

People prescribed semaglutide, sold as Ozempic and Wegovy, to lose weight, may have a higher risk of developing a serious but rare eye condition, a study suggests.

Analysing 17,000 patients over six years, US researchers found those taking the drug for type 2 diabetes were four times more likely to be diagnosed with the condition than patients not on the drug.

Among those taking it for obesity, the risk of the condition was seven times higher.

But the researchers cannot prove semaglutide caused the eye condition, which can lead to loss of vision in one eye, nor can they explain the increased risk or the difference between the groups. The numbers affected were small.

Australian fans of a late morning McDonald's breakfast are having to wake up earlier.

The fast food giant has temporarily shortened the hours of its breakfast service in the country by 90 minutes due to an egg shortage caused by a bird flu outbreak.

It is currently serving its full breakfast menu only until 10:30am, instead of the usual midday.

"Like many retailers, we are carefully managing supply of eggs due to the current industry challenges," McDonald's Australia said in a statement sent to the BBC.

"We’re continuing to work closely with our network of Aussie farmers, producers, and suppliers, as the industry comes together to manage this challenge."

Several strains of bird flu have been detected in 11 poultry facilities across southeast Australia in the past two months.

Authorities have said they have the situation under control.

"Consumers can expect to see some empty shelves in the short-term, however, supplies are being re-directed to areas with short supply," the Australian government said.

"Consumers should refrain from purchasing more eggs than required."

Tracy-Ann Oberman is returning to EastEnders as Chrissie Watts – after almost two decades.

Chrissie Watts was last seen in the show in December 2005, when she went to jail for murdering her husband "Dirty Den" Watts, played by the late Leslie Grantham.

Chrissie made plenty of enemies during her 18 months on Albert Square, mainly Den’s adopted daughter, Sharon, played by longstanding cast member Letita Dean.

Since her time on the soap, Oberman has featured in shows such as Doctor Who and After Life, and as Auntie Val in Friday Night Dinner.

Oberman is also an experienced theatre actor, and most recently starred as Shylock in retelling of Shakespeare play The Merchant of Venice 1936, which went on a national tour.

The actress has already started filming for her EastEnders return, although the scenes won’t air until autumn.

Oberman said she "jumped at the chance" to return to Albert Square.

"Chrissie Watts was such a great character to play - a victim or a villain," she said.

"She is a real fan favourite so, when [executive producer] Chris Clenshaw asked me to come back and revisit her and see what has happened in the last 19 years, I jumped at the chance.

"The scripts are fantastic and I hope the viewers enjoy her as much as I am enjoying playing her again."

EastEnders’ executive producer Chris Clenshaw said he wouldn’t reveal plotlines, but promised "it’s never quiet when Chrissie Watts is around".

"Although the character hasn’t been seen on screen for almost 20 years, Chrissie is cemented in EastEnders’ rich history for her murder of Walford’s most infamous villain, and Sharon’s beloved father, Dirty Den.

"I’m keeping tight-lipped on the exact circumstances relating to her return for the time being."

Pooches at polling stations across the UK

Labour is set to win a general election landslide with a majority of 170, according to an exit poll for the BBC, ITV and Sky.

If the forecast is accurate, Sir Keir Starmer will become prime minister with 410 Labour MPs – just short of Tony Blair's 1997 total.

The Conservatives are predicted to slump to 131 MPs, their lowest number ever.

The Liberal Democrats are projected to come third with 61 MPs.

The Scottish National Party will see its number of MPs fall to 10, while Reform UK is forecast to get 13 MPs, according to the exit poll.

The Green Party of England and Wales is predicted to double its number of MPs to two and Plaid Cymru is set to get four MPs. Others are forecast to get 19 seats.

The exit poll, overseen by Sir John Curtice and a team of statisticians, is based on data from voters at about 130 polling stations in England, Scotland and Wales. The poll does not cover Northern Ireland.

At the past five general elections, the exit poll has been accurate to within a range of 1.5 and 7.5 seats.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has said his party is set for a "huge" general election result.

He pointed to the first two results in north-east England, where Reform easily beat the Conservatives to come second, winning almost 30% of the vote.

Reform, which was formed in 2018 as the Brexit Party, is forecast to win 13 MPs, according to an exit poll for the BBC, ITV and Sky.

This is more than many polls during the campaign had predicted.

However, the figure is highly uncertain, as the model suggests there are many places where the party only has a relatively low chance of winning.

Polling expert Sir John Curtice said Reform had benefited from a significant fall in the Conservative vote in seats the party had previously held, as well as advancing most in areas where people voted Leave in the 2016 referendum.

Sir Keir Starmer has promised to build a "government of service" after becoming the UK's first Labour prime minister since 2010.

Speaking outside 10 Downing Street after his party's landslide election win, he pledged to restore trust in politics and “navigate away to calmer waters”.

And appealing directly to voters who did not back his party, he vowed to put “country first" and govern “unburdened by doctrine”.

He was cheered into the famous street by a crowd of supporters, who were waving Union Jacks, and the flags of Scotland and Wales. The PM and his wife Victoria hugged old friends and colleagues who had lined up to applaud him.

Speaking from the lectern, he cautioned that despite Labour's huge parliamentary majority of 174, his aim of "rebuilding" Britain "will take a while".

Sir Keir, who has formally replaced Tory leader Rishi Sunak after an audience with the King at Buckingham Palace, has started to appoint his new cabinet, before it meets for the first time on Saturday.
