The whole FIFA pro 11 was from the Spanish league which was a joke,

Out of the last four different players to win it one was a CB. Hardly indicative of defenders not having a chance.

Messi has been the best player in the world for the last 4 years - it's hard to argue that so why shouldn't he win the Ballon d'Or?

Sneijder was better in 2010. However, the FIFA pro 11 is just a farce.

I think that much is evident.

The team of the year is a complete farce but I never pay any attention to it anyway. It's nearly as bad as Garth Crooks's team of the week

Because last year he scored a lot of goals which only led to a domestic cup? Bottled it when it mattered.

Winning titles and all that is a team game. The Ballon d'Or is for an individual. Team honours should not matter at all, the best player is the best player no matter on what his team as a whole achieve.

When a defender scores 91 goals come back to me.
-------------------------

Here's an idea?

Maybe it is not a defender' job to score 90-plus goals. When a striker defends prevents 90-plus interceptions a season, maybe get back to me.

Oh, wait...top defenders, do that with regular frequency.

What a moronic argument.

That truly was an impressively stupid comment you made.

Well done you.

Exactly!

You can't really argue that Messi isn't the greatest player on earth so he should win the award that goes to the greatest player on earth.

Only Ronaldo fanboys would argue otherwise.

People use the teams he's scored against against Peter Crouch at international level, yet can't get enough of Messi scoring against poor teams to skew the statistics.

Would be interesting to know which defenders the OP should have won it ahead of the likes of Ronaldo, Messi and Sneijder.

Messi does deserves it but its about politics rather than quality

To be fair, it is reflective of The way people view football in general, in terms of attacking players getting more exposure. The vast majority of transfer rumours and even articles on here are about midfielders or strikers, very rarely defense.

In a way, this is right though. You could theoretically not concede a goal all season and still go down, you can't win a title without scoring. United are a lime example of that, you have scored more goals this year yet your goal difference is worse. Despite that, you are seven points clear. At the top end, goals tend to make the difference more often than the defence does, and not many teams get them both right.

What is wrong with the whole thing is that they chose the wrong defenders.

The national team coach of Thailand voted for Xabi Alonso and the national team coach of Thailand voted for Busquets.

Weird.

I think Kompany was brilliant. Even Ramos was great. If it was defenders only then those two would be choice, can't decide.

Kompany has not been at a top level this season.
Would you really say Ramos has been that good to be even mentioned in the same breath as Ronaldo and Messi?
