Is Rooney underrated by our fans?

Some good points there Redastomatoes, although some OTT and he would get in the Arsenal team, he could play in Wiltshires role.........
Think you are falling on deaf ears to the Rooney lovers on here, it is obvious, he can do no wrong, has amazing touch and passing abilites, in fact I think there should be a "Church of Rooney" where they can go and pray and pay homeage to plastic gnomb like figures of Wayne and Colleen...................

Just to progress the debate a little further, what's this all round game that Rooney supposedly possesses?

This is Redastomatoes official "coming out" as an Arsenal fan thread.... I'm honoured.

That post is legendary.

*******************************

Thats ok. If being a united fan includes suffering this delusion about rooney then let it be.

I repeat, name one thing rooney can claim to be better at based on ability?

I will give a list. If you can name 3 things, I will change my tune and call him the best player ever.

Pace
Skill
Technique
Passing.
Versatility
Work Rate
Finishing.
Timing of Runs.

If there some more magical abilities I have missed please put it in. If you can find 3 things he is undeniabley better at, I'll raise up my hand, say rooney is better and expose myself as a WUM for over a decade since the inception of 606, maintaining my cover by barely posting on arsenals board during this time because I am soo dedicated.

It must be hard to have someone not have sheeplike opinions of the media and the hoard. I used to like those videos were they show every touch of a player in a game. If it was ever done for rooney every game, wow people would be shocked just how average a footballer he is.

By the way I am refering to aruna kone which I am beginning to think would be wonderful for us.

You'd be hard pressed to find any comments i've ever made as being "sheep like"..... I argue far more with our own fans than any of the others.

But to say Rooney wouldn't make the Arsenal squad is quite literally the stupidest thing i've even heard anyone say about football, ever.

I usually don't weigh in on these debates as there are far too many morons roaming this site, but Ji Sung Park's cousin is absolutely right. I think the assertion that Rooney wouldn't make Arsenal's squad is the most abhorrent thing I've ever read on ja606. Rooney would walk into the Arsenal team, be given captaincy and be hailed as their best player. To say he wouldn't even make the squad is just beyond any superlative for stupid.

lmao.... So the most egregious thing I said was rooney would not get into arsenals team?

Ok my logic is simple. Wenger would play a lazy, small, paceless player as long as he has a minimum amount of technique. I do not believe rooney is up to that level of wengers teams technical and most european teams. Which is my I do not think he will get into their team. He may be what they need, but wenger would not suffer a player of his technique.

Btw.... no one has told me the things rooney does better than aruna kone.

I give an opinion. Not much point in me giving your opinion is it

For me, your view is clouded a tad, as mine might be.

Maybe it's because they bloke is a prize prat, maybe it's because you still can;t forgive his brain fart a couple of years ago.

Still, I see you have Pancho in your screen name. Would you say he was better than Wayne Rooney?

i'll tell you a story I have told on here a few times.

I was sat with my two boys in the South Stand a couple of seasons back and Rooney was warming up in front of us kicking a ball to I think Evans 50 or so yards away

I asked my boys to watch him closely and he was hitting an area virtually the size of a dustbin lid time and time again. My lads just marvelled at it until I pointed out which foot he was using. It was one with the left, then one with the right, then one with the left, then one with the right and so on.
That is pure quality passing ability for me.

If he doesn't show it in every single game that does not mean he doesn't have the ability. So passes stray, it happens.

For me, only Michael Carrick, who is also two-footed, possesses a more accurate pass that Wayne Rooney

Now, Pancho or Wazza?

Maybe people couldn't be bothered debating with someone who is stupid enough to think Wayne Rooney wouldn't get into the Arsenal team??

I'll just go on facts, as I don't know the player too well.

He hasn't consistently scored 20+ goals for a club that battles for titles and silverware, year after year.

In fact, he hasn't even outscored Rooney this season.

So, one thing rooney does better than aruna kone.... Goal Scoring.

I usually agree with what tomatoes says and although he did go over the top with "Rooney won't get into arsenals side" but there is definitely a point he is making.
His first touch has become horrible. The ball literally bounces of his feet half the time. Macca said he miscontrols a pass couple of times. No way. He miscontrols it at least 10 times every game and you will see if you watch him carefully without the redtinted glasses.
For me where Rooney gained in finishing he has diminished in every other aspect i.e First touch, close control, left foot, long range shooting, pace, dribbling etc.

Rooney is stil rapid or did you miss his 80 yard sprint in the Derby to cover right back and his Derby winning finish last season is one of the best finishes I have ever seen

Big game player who was comfortably the man of the match in this season's Derby

He's struggled for fitness this season. nothing more

Derby winner season before last I meant sorry

In that case, watch a wigan game then come back to me.

Rooney just does not have enough unique qualities to make me see him as anything other than the product of united's system.

Macca
Really? Are we judging a striker on his ability to track back?

No. But I believe at this moment RVP is a better player and our most important player ahead of Wayne.

I am not exaggerating at all. There are plenty of posters here who will back me up on this. Rooney really has lost his first touch and close control.
That's what I have been saying. What he lost in other abilities he has gained in finishing which frankly is world class.
