Continues to lose confidence? Did you read Royce's comments? He is even more determined now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eddi Nketiah's development is a perfect example of the problems I perceive. Just look at Martinelli, Ains when he was exiled, Willock, so on.
I am sure his brother will say Balogun is more determined. However it takes more than youthful exuberance.
Do you honestly believe DJ that our present coaches are good enough to bring them through.
I am not talking of those players who are so super talented they were almost no miss like Saka and maybe even ESR. But the group just below them, talented but need some work to reach the top.
That is true to some extent for even with our big buys Tomi, Ramsdale, White, Odegaard.

Royce on his brothers performance versus Brentford:
‘It was a good game for him, it was a baptism of fire, I think it was something he needed, he needed to see that this is the level. I think him going through that really showed he’s just started, it’s just the beginning, there’s always the next step, to me you’ve never made it until you retire, until you’re finished and you can sign off and say, ‘this is my career, my stats, my numbers’, that’s when you can see you’ve made it, you’ve done your career.
‘It was a baptism, he really learnt it was not Under-23s, these are people who are really going for it, they want your head, even the way they were dragging him about you could tell.
‘After the game you could really tell he was angry. He wasn’t panicking, it was more, ‘I need to step up’, the next day he was angry but he was like, ‘we go again, we go to the training ground and we keep going. It’s tough being in that limelight, and especially with that kind of fame.'
"Whenever I talk to Folarin I tell him to keep going but the system just doesn’t really work at the moment.
Soon it will work, there will be a movement and you’ve got to be ready when it does."
So, when you read what Royce says, you realise Fola admits himself it was a bigger step up than he thought, he wasn't ready for it.
Also, while Royce says the tactics don't suit the striker, be it Fola or Auba, he is confident it will work in the long term.
It definitely isn't an attack on the way his brother is being developed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah, cool. No problem then, by the sounds of it.
Always good to be given the whole story.
Eventually.
Nice one, DJ

J99, if the first team is successful, few people will talk about the youth players that didn't make it.

I'm sorry if that's a little too simplistic for you. But that's the truth of it.

Nketiah is a poacher, never likely to be anymore. Even Bielsa couldn't get much out of him.
Ains was 22/23 before Arteta took over, and both Wenger and Emery had problems finding his position and trusting him.
Willock was given chances, but doesn't fit the system. Happens.
Nelson has always struggled to make an impact, even when at Hoffenheim.
Martinelli had a massive step up, and a fair few injuries. He started the first two games and was poor.
It is very rare for a group of youngsters to make it at a club at the same time. In fact it is quite rare for a club to have a conveyor of kids making it over a few years.
When we were in the Europa (under Wenger and Emery mainly) the kids got a fair bit of exposure. Only Saka really transferred his form into the PL. Emile went a different route, but under Arteta has stepped up.

People aren't ignoring Saka or ESR. Like I pointed out above.
It is far more serious because we have reduced the age of the squad and it is more than just 'business as usual'. Coaching youngsters and developing them successfully is now core of our strategy.
