Van Djik is underrated imo. His passing is above average. But I agree with you on a certain level cause teams very rarely press Liverpool because of the fear of their wide forwards running in behind.

I think passing CBs are crucial in modern game where there are so many tactically astute managers. Klopp has made a career exploiting CBs limitations. And so many managers now press on the same premise. It works.

Depends on the other players though.
If you have a Cazorla/Rodri/Thiago/Kante centre mid who is not afraid to take the ball from the CBs every time its irrelevant

Unfortunatly for us it's really one of Partey's main strengths and Xhaka is useless at receiving the ball under pressure

Yes, But that still leaves the possibility of oppo marking the solitary DM. Which is why both City's CBs can come into midfield and start moves. And in fact so do Liverpool, Chelsea etc. Going back to my original point why White is more important than Gabriel.

In fact Emery used to play Torreira as the press on the opposing DM when fans/pundits couldn't understand why he was playing so high up the pitch!

I know. He couldn't do it. I think the last time we had a player who could successfully win the ball high up the pitch and still have the vision to make the cutting pass was Paddy.

Which is what p!sses me off Ode the most. If you could inject Xhaka's aggression into Ode we would have a world class player.

Really? White has issues when defending in wider areas but he hasn't had many dope moments in the centre.

Saliba can play on the left or right. He is just a very good player.
