Jesus and Eddie are sort of modern day high press strikers. I suppose that would be your main style. Kinda like what we played last season in our successful runs. City and Liverpool lite. But you then need a presence if teams sit back. Which is where a cheaper target man makes sense.

We did spend £50m on a CB last season. Who would have expected that? So £100m on a position where we have no players apart from a developing Eddie doesn't sound too much tbh. We did spend £100m+ on Laca and Auba.

No CM then? Elneny got a new contract i spose

What are we doing with Sambi? Send him on loan or sell him?

I think we spend the same as last season. £150m.

If I was budgeting:

c£100m on Forwards.

c£40m on CM

c£10m + whatever we get on sales on secondary backups. Maybe a full back if AMN does not replace Cedric or backup to Tierney if Nuno doesn't develop as expected.

He'll probably stay now we have Europa. Will be good for him

150m two seasons in a row Jenius?! Would make us Europe's highest spenders by a fair distance I would think

posted on 6/6/22

Only City, Utd, Madrid and Barca have out spent us in the last 10 years!

Annoying when you consider basically our best players are mostly home grown

Well maybe not all HG but cheaper buys

Who on earth is this 'scamacca'
Literally never heard of him

Plays like Giroud with all those daft flicks and backheels. Incredible jawline too so no doubt GT rates him

ok

Depends on the style you are trying to implement. Gabriel ain't all that on the ball. His passing is a big weakness tbh. And when Potter, Paddy, etc press they let him have the ball knowing he will lose it one way or the other.

CBs being good at passing has become massively overrated.

I know the game has moved on but was Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry, Kompany et all any good on the ball?

Van Djik is probably the best CB In the world I'd say and he's nothing more than average on the ball. Defenders are there to defend first.

Even with Europa. With Elneny extending his contract and us possibly buying another CM, Sambi won't have any playing time.
A loan of one year (same as Elneny extension) would be preferable me think.

Van Djik is underrated imo. His passing is above average. But I agree with you on a certain level cause teams very rarely press Liverpool because of the fear of their wide forwards running in behind.

I think passing CBs are crucial in modern game where there are so many tactically astute managers. Klopp has made a career exploiting CBs limitations. And so many managers now press on the same premise. It works.

We can't complain on having so many matches this season compared to last season and then loan away any depth?

posted on 6/6/22

Don't see much point in sending Sambi on loan, unless it is to a decent PL team who guarantees him starts (which won't happen).
He will get games here.
