I really like Arsenal's transfer window. We got more than decent players in. Back luck with Timber's injury.
Due to Timber's injury we are still short at the back but as a serious club you can't buy all the time. Time to believe in our youngsters and give them a chance. That is what a serious club have to do.
Pepe and Cedric staying arent the end of the world. Still could move on to Saudi though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you spend over £200m as we have, your aspirations should probably be higher than "we got more than decent players in", don't you think?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are right. They are more than decent. Wording wasnt correct.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rice? Sure. He's looked more than decent. West Ham still got the better deal getting us to part with a 9-figure sum for him.
Havertz hasn't looked decent.
Liked what I've seen of Timber, but one match isn't enough to make judgements on anyone and he's unfortunately now going to be battling a very disruptive long-term injury. Was impressed the first time I saw Kolasinac too.
Wouldn't say we've seen anything from this window to really get us excited.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone is entitled to have an opinion. I see a lot of talent players we brought in. If they all really gel that remains to be seen. I don't make judgements after 3 single games.
I think you are missing the point, Sheriff. We finished second with a core group of players. Arteta has upgraded 3 starting positions. Edu and KSE's strategy is to continue to do that till Arsenal start winning titles. Will it be enough this season? Maybe not, but we should be closer than last season. It may need another summer and an acquisition like Osimhen to put us over the line.
a) Is Havertz better than Xhaka? Theoretically, he should be. Havertz is a natural attacking player, who was not too long ago compared to Ballack. So maybe after a bit of deprogramming and regaining of confidence, Arteta will get the best out of him. Keep in mind, Xhaka was not an attacking midfielder his whole career, and he adapted very well last season.
b) Is Rice better than Partey. No doubt.
c) Is Timber better than Gabriel? This will have to wait a season.

Everton team looks so awful, and they have only managed to get 5 outfield players on the bench.
They'll have a new manager in just in time to play us
Financing the new stadium has pretty much fecked them.

Arteta has to rotate, we have some tricky league fixture on either side of some of those CL fixtures.
Which ones does he go strong in, CL or PL

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Havertz has not demonstrated he's better than Xhaka. Not individually, and DEFINITELY not in the shape/balance of our midfield. Whether he was compared to Ballack isn't relevant. Before Messi, there were like a dozen new Maradonas in Argentina. Ballack was a very versatile player could play any midfield role to a very high level. Havertz' versatility through his PL career has been more about finding a role for him where he sucks the least and Chelsea settled on making him the striker. Arteta seems to want to rehash old failed experiments with him.
I don't know what point I'm missing. We've spent far too much money for what seems to be marginal gains at best (could get a lot worse cos the early signs aren't encouraging).
Much like Ozil, Havertz is just one of those players who will be staunchly defended by die-hards until it becomes untenable with time. Except Ozil was more talented (but a bigger weakness) and I could actually see what Ozil would bring to our team with his vision and execution in the final 3rd, and I just can't see anything Havertz adds to our team.

I'd go strong in the league but only make the odd change here and there in the champions league. Once we've secured qualification then in our last game or two we can afford to make loads of changes.
Garner has been shocking so far.

Rice in that position with Partey in his best position makes a lot more sense than what we're trying at the moment.
Odegaarde would again have the freedom to excel too.
Rotate Havertz in sparingly, if it doesn't work out oh well, better to play to top players strengths than shift a load of better players around in order to accommodate a guy who's been awful for the last couple of years.
*Yes Rice would still be a bit of an experiment but at least he's not failed in that position already which Havertz has at Chelsea. He's far more similar in terms of strengths to what Xhaka was, in fact he might we'll give us the ability to win the ball higher up and catch sides off guard.

I agree with this. This was what most envisioned when we kept Partey. Rice and Partey at CM with Odegaard having a freer no.10 role. Havertz as competition for the likes of Jesus and Nketiah. Hell, you could play Jesus wide (competition with Martinelli) and Havertz in the middle. I couldn't quite see Arteta looking to play Havertz in Xhaka's role last season.
