Galv,
You just need an episode of X-Factor to do that.
Or TOWIE.

I can't think of a single war thats been caused by patriotism!
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
err the second world war? was caused solely by german, italian and japanese patriotism (and before anyone brings it up, no nationalism and patriotism are not two different things, that is just linguistics.)
------------------------------
Hitler was Austrian for starters
You could say the German people went to war because of of Patrionism but I would guess 99.9% of the German's fighting the war, really didn't want to.
They didn't have much choice though did they. Fight or be shot wasn't it?

Not just the religion of theist origins either - environmentalists, animal rights, Nzis, Commies. All religious zealots in their way
No WW2 was not caused by Patriotism, it was caused by meglomaniacs trying expand their borders, dominate half the world and in the case of the Third Riech, trying to exterminate any one who didn't have blonde hair and blue eyes.
I think you are again mistaking the cause of the war with leaders like Hitler, Musolini and Emporer Hirrihito trying to utilise patriotism to fuel national fervour for the war!

Islam like Christianity says you should kill people who don't follow your religion. Like the Christian bible it has many nice things which contradict this.

The architecture. Judging from what you just put though, we are arguing cross purposes, your definition of patriotism is different to mine.
I'm not getting into which definition is correct, just what you judge to be patriotism, I don't, so we aren't talking about the same things!

For good people to do evil things takes religion
---------------------
No. Religion is incidental.
Like football is incidental to football hooligans. They use it as an excuse. It isn't football that makes a person want to be violent. They are violent anyway.
Violent murderers will use religion as an excuse to be evil because, ultimately, they are evil anyway
Melton, Hippo didn't realise that it was actually national pride that is the reason for much of the beautiful architecture in Italy so that would be a pointless argument.

Of course they exist, it's just far to simple to use them as the stereotypical patriotic English person. There are many kinds of patriotic people, but like with anything it's the extreme cases that cause trouble. Like I said before people are frowned upon in England when they say they are patriotic but that's very unfair.

Exactly
Religion is a very complicated and intricate tool used to assert power.
Belief and religion are two different things.

I haven't read the Quran that well but I'm sure it doesn't say we have to kill someone that doesn't follow Islam hippo
I don't believe in evil people. They are shaped by their very environment. I don't believe there are genetic traits that determine whether or not you will murder or steal.
Religion is, in my opinion, the biggest environmental factor that shapes these people and leads them to think the way they do. I find the idea of believing in something that has no evidence to suggest it exists to be laughable. My atheist upbringing has a lot to do with this I imagine. Without religion, racism and homophobia would not be as big a problem to certain factions of people.
Patriotism is a propaganda tool used to fuel public societies into getting behind wars: "your country needs YOU" etc. Therefore, I'd agree with hippo that it is a cause of perpetuating war, although I wouldn't say that it is a root cause. Root causes are money, power and religion.
