Why didn't Mario Suarez start has he not started over tiago majority of season?
I was asking that for the whole game. And what was the Sosa sub for? Made absolutely no sense!
Don't think Sosa has done anything since simeone brought him in.
Not sure, I'd have to check, but I'd say Mario and Tiago have played a similar amount of games. Could be that he thought Tiago's experience made him a safer bet; might have been for specific tactical reasons we're not aware of (e.g. better distribution for the counter); or it may have been that he was in better physical shape than Mario. Yes, it was him who gifted Bale with that opportunity, but for the most part I think he and all of Atleti were very good at keeping Madrid out.
Sosa, I don't know, I personally think Cebolla Rodríguez gives the opposition much more to worry about and is a much more dangerous sub to bring on when legs are tiring, but I think he had some sort of fallout with Simeone. If I remember rightly, I think he made some noises about wanting to leave in the winter window.
All comps:
Tiago 31 starts, 3 sub apps
Mario 24 starts, 1 sub app
Probably the position he's rotated the most to ensure fresh legs to protect the defence.
That was a good final, there weren't many chances at either end for the first 60 mins or so but I really enjoyed the intensity all over the pitch. Atletico didn't really look like scoring from open play, well-deserved victory in the end for Real helped by some smart subs from Ancelotti. Congrats IOAG and pekster

Ramos is Schwarzenbeck 2.0 - new, improved version they have to put up with several times a year.
Yeah, it was intense renoog, I really wasn't expecting that goal - I'd actually spent the previous few minutes telling myself how much Atleti had deserved it. I jumped for joy, but at the end of the affair felt a bit dirty for our having denied them what would've been a fairytale ending that would've made the memory of a lifetime for every Atleti fan.
We're worse than Thatcher!
My brother was actually supporting Madrid and at around the 88th minute he was telling me how he was impressed with Atleti for winning it and then he turned to me and asked why I was in no hurry to finish my drinks. I told him "never write off Madrid!" I had also told him that Atleti would tire after around 70 minutes. He thinks I am sort of a jedi now.

Yeah, but what about Diego Ribas? Was he on the bench? Turan was a huge miss IMO
Is he much younger than you?
I remember when I was a 9-10 y.o. kid I thought my eldest brother was some kind of football genius for predicting an Argentina-Netherlands final before the start of the 1978 World Cup.
No, he is actually 2 years older than I but I guess I have a lot more knowledge of La Liga than he does. Over the last 6 or so years, I have watched a lot more La Liga than the English premier league while he is a predominantly EPL fan.
Yeah, Turan was a big miss. Diego, I don't know if he was on the bench or not, but I think Atleti's problem in that respect was a lack of pace on the break. That's why I think Rodríguez could've made a differencewhen everyone was tiring.
There was a point, when we started to box Atletico in, that I thought it was all set for Atleti to deliver knockout punch, but I gradually realised they just didn't have anyone fast enough and that it would take an inch-perfect passing counter to pull it off.
So, you've got the La Liga over PL bragging rights for the summer.
Completely agree. They started to tire in the 65th or so minute and you turned on the screw on them and I felt it was just a matter of time before you scored. Rodriguez would have been a good sub at that point. I also thought he took off Raul Garcia way too early! With one sub already used he could have made use of his legs for another 10 or so minutes before taking him off.
The epl fans here, which is pretty much everyone else don't really have anything to say now. They always buy into the "there is no quality outside the top 2 in Spain" nonsense but I dropped the bomb of no liga team having been eliminated by a non-La La liga team this season and blew their minds

That's a real nuke that one. Check out this year's UEFA coefficients, basically blew the (our) previous single-season points record out of the water.
Do you guys think the Benz has a future at Madrid? After last night, although it is hard to put it all on you, I don't really think so. He was completely anonymous.
Don't think he's completely fit, but he hasn't be able to win all the doubters over this season. He was doing really well at one point, but faltered a bit going into the final stretch. I reckon he'll be sold on this year to make way from an Aguero/Suarez type player.
I have been impressed with him this season. I think I remember me having this conversation with you at the start of the season and saying how I thought he was a good player but his attitude stinks. He has turned that around tbh. His link up play has also been excellent for the likes of Ronaldo, Jese and Bale!
Jeez, you greedy bustards!! No team should have Bale, Suarez and Ronaldo as a front three

Think one of our main problems is thinking we can/should have a world no.1 for each position.
Top 10 guy for each starting position and top 20 replacement in the squad should have you challenging for everything every year.
Only just noticed yesterday saw 12 bookings plus Simeone's sending off. Ref did a good job to keep it 11v11, either that or the players did v well to spread the fouls out.
I did say it'd be a comfortable 3-1 win and not to worry didn't i
How d'you know I'd get the best armchair in the pub, Mex?
Another weird coincidence re Ramos & Schwartzenbeck...both wore the no. 4 shirt.
