He's so right but it sounds like a plea to stay at the same time

well said neville

it shocks when I see ppl saying sell rooney.

tbh at the start of the summer I was very optimistic there would be 1 or 2 marquee signings to soften the blow of rooney leaving. But to sell him to anyone let alone chelsea without a player of equal quality borders on madness imo.

Why does it shock you? What is so shocking about wanting a player that clearly doesn't want to play for us to leave the club.

Chelsea isn't ideal but the club isn't going to put Rooney in the reserves for 2 seasons.

It's pretty naive to think that if Rooney really wants a move to Chelsea that he won't get it.

As England assistant manager I think he's bang out of order to say United shouldn't sell Rooney..

I watched the segment. He even says that there is a problem behind the scenes.

He may not want Rooney to go to Chelsea but he never once said it will not 100% happen.

And he also shldnt be using his position on SS to say united shld go for bale........!!!!!

Not one SINGLE United fan actually wants Rooney to go to Chelsea. Some have conceeded that's going to happen though, some haven't. Nobody actually want it though. I'd sell him to Timbuktu if it was possible.

The whole thing is now boring and has been handled atrociously by ALL parties. It's like school playground stuff now. Thankfully the Suarez situation has taken away some of the sting.

I really don't see him being accepted again by the fans now though. There was loads of booing near me against Swansea and things have got worse since.

I fear Rooney has played his last competitive game at United. Such a shame that his great 9 years at United overall has to end this way.

It happens to a lot of legends. Look at Keane!

1 year away from his testimonial too.

as much as a rooney might be I am not blinded by so much rage that I fail to see his quality.

chelsea signing rooney will make them stronger and utd weaker. And until we bring in someone as good as rooney it would be football suicide regardless of the circumstance.

I want him gone..... se 85, so I am not a united fan? I want him gone to chelsea even because he is rubbish. It would be awesome for him to go there and be found out. But I am not a united fan. Just love wasting time talking about the club.

"You have absolute gold in Rooney, someone who is proven over six, seven, eight years; who delivers season in, season out; and is one of the top goals and assists man in the league consistently - even last season when he wasn't at his strongest.

"He will work his backside off and never drop his level in training and the importance of Rooney [is huge]; he is a vital player, a champion player and someone that wins you the league.

"He is the guy who in the middle of October when you are four points behind in the league, going to Chelsea and have Arsenal the week after, sits in front of his midfield two, works his backside off, gets up the pitch, gets back, sets up goals and digs in.

"Don't underestimate the value of Rooney to Manchester United's success over the last eight years and the way he is liked amongst his team-mates.

Poor Gary, he's talking about a player that doesn't exist anymore

Ok, apologies Ruiney, I'll rephrase it,

As part of the England coaching set up, he's bang out of order to say United shouldn't sell Rooney.. Better?

Of course, I have no problems with Rooney's quality but that's not the issue.

The guy wants to go. He doesn't want to play anymore for us. There's nothing United can do about it. Just like Bale and Suarez the player in question will leave.

We all make mistakes in life.

If Rooney were to come out and say that he has perhaps misjudged some situations in the past, knuckles down and gains peak fitness and wants to carry on with the honour of playing for Manchester United then I would welcome him into the team if his form merits it.

A Manchester United with a firing Rooney is better than one without.

The ship may well have sailed on this one but for the majority of his time here he has served United well.

Wanting him gone is fine. But wanting him to go to Chelsea in particular if you had a free choice of other clubs too......

That just makes you an idiot quite frankly.

I agree robb, and I actually want rooney gone but the conditions as to be right for utd that is all I am saying.

Everyone on here bar maybe Tomatoes will look back at Rooney fondly but sometimes footballers want a new challenge.

That's probably all that is with Wayne and fair enough. I wish he was a bit more honest about it but I still think closer to the end of the window he'll release a statement that says he wants to leave for a new challenge, no hard feelings etc.

United will survive even if it takes a season or two to do so. The supporters really shouldn't fear it.

If he does that, the best he will get from me is that I won't boo him. He gets nothing else. He also shouldn't be involved in Rio's testimonial. Those events are for loyal servants

Heinze was desperate to leave and join all the Spanish speaking brigade when Rafa was at Liverpool. United point blank refused and he ended up going abroad. I think the same will happen this time. It might be different one year from now when Rooney only has a year left on his contract...that's when it comes to the crunch.
Then again United could just do what Dortmund have done with Lewandowski and just point blank refuse to sell him to a direct domestic rival even if it means he eventually leaves for nothing. Unlikely...but you never know. United are in a far better financial position than Dortmund.

Put it this way i don't think Arsenal would have sold RVP to United last summer if he had two years left on his contract regardless of the fact that he asked to leave. And Arsenal are much more of a selling club than what United are.

Didn't Rio want to move to Chelsea a year after the club stuck by him after his missed drugs test?

posted on 8/8/13

If Rooney respects United enough to get himself fit and back in form then he is an asset.

However, if truth be told I haven't felt quite the same about him since 2010. Not dislike as such but I never thought he would be the player to do what he did.

However, selling him to Chelsea would not be good IMO.

I am sure MUDD that you wouldn't boo any player as that would be counter-productive but I understand those who want him gone. I am not one of them at the moment though because I don't know the full picture in which to make a complete judgement. I'd rather wait and let the whole facts come in first.
