Rooney will go to Chelsea for around £40 million or more if Arsenal get involved.

The levels of delusion on this board sometimes shocks me.

All Rooney has to do is put out a statement (on Twitter) saying he's looking forward to the new season at United.

That would end it all. Everyone knows it but no-one will admit it.

Rooney's silence speaks volumes.

Rooney's silence is only annoying because we read into what the papers say so much.

If he is angling for a new contract (probably his last big pay day) then perhaps this is his tactic to do so. Not Scholes-type loyalty maybe but such is the nature of modern football relatively understandable.

However, as I don't have all the facts to hand I'll reserve judgement.

One thing is for sure though I'd be much happier seeing Rooney in red at OT for the Chelsea game than blue.

It doesn't matter what you use as a yardstick, it matters what United use as a yardstick. You spent 50m on Torres - why would we sell you Rooney for less?

Why is it delusional? We have never sold a top player to a PL title rival. History suggests that you are the delusional one here Robb.

It's delusional because all the signs point to Rooney wanting out and yet people on here think that Rooney is wanting to stay and this whole thing was concocted by the media.

Stat - I dont see us going anywhere near the 50m mark for Rooney. If Utd do want to sell him, 40m should do it.

United won't want to sell to Chelsea. Why would they? So no, I don't believe that 40m will do it. The fee would have to be too big to turn down, so I reckon we are talking upwards of 50m minimum.

Maybe so. We can go back and forth all day on this. You seem to have it in your head that we'll pay upwards of 50m for Rooney when we didnt pay it for Falcao or Cavani, I think we'll nab him at around the 40m mark. Just gotta wait and see.

I actually don't think you will get him at all. We'd much rather sell him abroad.

buying club must be prepared to pay silly price for a player when the selling club do not want to sell

utd do not want to sell, esp not to chelsea. So in reality while 40 million might be a fair price utd have on numerous occasions said no. To now change their stance for anything short of silly money will show weakness.

In my humble opinion, I believe Rooney wants to leave and was hoping like in 2010 he would get more takers but only one club is interested and he knows we won't sell him to them.

Like in 2010, he will eventually come out and make some half arsened apology and again will be forgiven by his fans who again in my humble opinion cannot see how his behaviour displays a lack of respect for our great club.

To each his own, I'm a Utd fan and no one should be allowed to drag my club through this garbage. Why some aren't upset by this baffles me.

Ok, well how about using Luiz as a yardstick then? If it is true that Chelsea are turning down bids in excess of £30m for him then how can Rooney possibly be worth less?

Beats me, didnt you offer 30m for Fabregas? How could he possibly worth roughly the same as what he went to Barcelona for? Transfers are not as clearcut as just looking at what player x went for and taking a value based on that.

I personally thought it was a master stroke from SAF. If it had come out that Rooney wanted to leave after Moyes had taken over we would have had a load of rubbish about how he didn't want to play under Moyes and questioning whether Moyes was big enough for the job. This way SAF let it be known that Rooney wanted away before Moyes was in place, which served to take the pressure off the new manager.

I think that's utter bollox personally sorry.

We all know what happened v Madrid etc and it would have been quite simple for the club, and Rooney for that matter, to have stated that Roo had asked to leave earlier but the club did not want to cloud Sir Alex's retirement, which in part, it did.

Fergie retired and threw a custard pie at Rooney on the way out

Rooney needs to stay because, as someone said so eloquently on the radio last night, United, at the moment, are like a Supermodel that can't get a date
