The question should not be 'what has Baines done to de-seat Cole', more, 'what has Cole done lately to deserve an auto-pick'

Why did Roy hodgson leave the leftside of his team to play the full 90 mins when Baines is such a weak defender Winston?

If you leave out the pathetic comments that seem to stem from me disagreeing with you, we can return to debate.
Why are you making out that Cole is so ineffective? You make out as if he just sits at left back and does nothing.
That's not accurate, is it?

"do you think baines cant defend?"
Is that a serious question?
Many Chelsea fans have told you he offers little going forward these days. In a game against top opposition, I would play Cole, as he is better defensively. Against opposition we can line up against in an attacking manner, Baines is clearly the best choice. Though, I don't want him taking free kicks, that is Rooney's job, especially given his recent improvement in free kick scoring rate.

What, you think that means I think that Baines can't defend?
Dear me.
If you read a little further down the page, you'll see my explanation. If you can't find it, let me know.

Are these match going Chelsea fans?
I've seen him live twice this season. I think he offers plenty going forward.
"Against opposition we can line up against in an attacking manner, Baines is clearly the best choice."
I don't necessarily disagree.
But how many games at the WC will this apply to?
Winston he doesn't offer hardly fack all. I go to matches, granted not week in week out but I never miss us play and I don't think you have a leg to stand on unless you watch us as much as I do.
You would have to ask them, but I imagine that even if they don't watch him live, they'll be watching on Sky, or whatever....
How many times have you seen Baines at a match in order to make the comparison Why is it so difficult to accept they're better at different things?
Totally Charming & Wonderful (U6489)
Don't have a leg to stand on? Well I do, it's just a case that we disagree, isn't it?

And that is only the teams that have automatically qualified.

If we're not in the top seeds (likely), then have you seen the breakdown of teams we might face?
We will most likely have one game that I'd say we would expect to control possession.
We do. However I think I would change my opinion on a United player if I were informed on what he does when i'm not watching by a/multiple United fan/s who watch all the matches, even if the times I had seen him myself lately suggested evidence to the contrary.

Where did I disagree that they're better at different things?
The point I am debating is that people are making out that Cole just sits at left back and doesn't move past the halfway line - it's completely inaccurate.
He may not have the delivery of Baines, but it's not exactly a night and day difference.
We'll have to wait and see, nothing is set in stone. There are only a handful of teams I would suggest setting up defensively for - and those are the real top teams.
Totally Charming & Wonderful (U6489)
At this point I should tell you that I know people with a box at Chelsea - three of them are regulars and rate Cole as the best left back the prem.
Is your opinion more valid than theirs?
Play Cole when England need to park the bus, great forward thinking tactics there Winston I must say.
I think the opposition players and managers would be happy with that arrangement as look what good that has done over the years.
As I said earlier,you haven't got a clue
Cole's attacking is the very worst part of his game, he doesn't have the pace for recovery against fast players any more as well. His crossing is poor, he rarely makes any sort of ground running or passing forward, he doesn't overlap effectively and he hardly scores. What is he good at?
