Trident costs billons every year.

westcoast - you seen this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uC4hwVd47FE

Duke - how exactly does Trident bring money into the economy? The 5000 workers may as well be getting paid to do nothing for all the good it does.

Trident costs us next to nothing AND
It brings directly 5000 jobs and indirectly another 10000
--------
it costs billions
And it supports way less jobs. Try hundreds and you will be closer to the mark.

It's also fckin useless as a deterrent when terrorists can blow up planes and buses

actually its 15000

Aye lets pay them nothing infact lets give them dole money OUT of the economy.

This workers spend over 30 million a year

Thats how it brings money to the economy.

They ran it in to the ground
The budgets THEY set are only now running out....

That's bull.
Labour had to invest after years of Tory neglect.

But hey, soon we won't even have one to neglect. Then it'll be fine.

they had a decade to fix it YET made it worse and underfunded it to new shocking levels.

It isn't worse than when they took over.

Duke - I was being exceedingly generous with the 5000 jobs, don't push your luck with 15000! Also interesting that you seem to accept such figures, despite the MoD saying it's only 520 (can't get better "experts" than that!).

They'd still spend that money if they just got handouts from the government. I don't see how the government paying people to do a pointless job contributes anything to the economy.

Sorry make that 17000 jobs and 50 mill to the economy

Labour MSP for Dumbarton, Jackie Baillie, said: "To remove nuclear weapons from HM Naval Base Clyde would wipe out the 11,000 jobs that are dependent on the base."

After the publication of a report by the House of Commons Scottish Affairs Committee on terminating Trident last week, the UK Defence Secretary, the Tory Philip Hammond, said: "The naval base at Faslane is the largest single site employer in Scotland with over 6000 jobs."

Anyway Scotland WILL vote YES the consequences of a no vote are to great.

We could never be expected to be taken seriously on a world wide stage again, and nor would we be.

well that is a different argument

we can if you wish chuck 17000 people on the dole

we can take the 50 mill out the economy

If you wish

Im only pointing it out.

Oh and the MOD numbers are only for non civilians.

This is normal people

From the guy who makes the widgets (nuclear subs use those) to the companies who provide lunch to the vehicles that get serviced to the people who clean up the base.

That's the naval site. Not just trident.

More smoke and mirror myths from the unionists right there Duke.

Keep the naval yard. Use it for other navy uses.

Ditch trident.

And Scotland can't possibly have its own navy?

Naw...too wee, too stupid to sail the ships....we'll just store the nuclear weapons next to our biggest city.

posted on 26/11/13

There will be plenty of jobs in a country of our size and with our population.

You can't keep spending billions every year on an outdated massive nuclear deterent just to save a few jobs, anyway other jobs will be created there and elsewhere.

Ok

So when the ship yards shut due to no navy work
and the 17000 folk get sacked from the naval base

Lets find work for them

Bare in mind we have a working population of 3 mill at the moment and they cant all find work

If you are happy with your peoples lot vote no.

If you believe you can govern yourselves better than London does, vote yes.
