OK. So apart from Gandhi and Martin Luther King, how many historical figures have been above using violence and resorting to killing?
I'm sure far-right nutcases also found some obscure reason to criticize MLK when he died. They would say the civil rights movement must have resulted in the death of at least one person and so MLK had blood on his hands.
The point of all this is that if you dislike someone and so have an agenda, no matter who it is, you will always find something negative to say about them. Today's comments about Mandela is clear evidence of that.

Myhammers I see your point but there have been hundreds of groups who have used non violence as a means to try and fight oppression.
Off the top of my head I can think of Pu55y Riot (banned word ) in Russia and the Solidarity movement in Poland during the days of the USSR. Both these groups have had their successes.
ST: Did the ANC not start out with peaceful protest but then resort to violence only when it was apparent that sitting in a circle and being mauled by police dogs was getting them nowhere?

I honestly don't know enough about SA to know myhammers. I was simply making the point that non-violence can be an extremely effective instrument and often works (see Egypt as well)
I do agree with you though, I think violence in these situations is often a legitimate tactic.
