Maybe I’m being cynical but it is a bit suspicious that news of his death broke during the Premier screening of the film of his life. I reckon this happened a few days ago and they held off announcing it with the view of adding some extra poignancy.

Sandy – People keep drawing comparisons between the innocent civilian casualties of Mandela and the United States (for example)? With out my opinion on the comparison the point doesn’t hold much weight. If I held a different view on similar actions by another group and that X was justified because it was in my interest fine, you could argue hypocrisy, but that isn’t the case.

Sizzle you have to accept that everyones opinions will be different (due to political beliefs for some) myself I feel nothing because he had no affect on my life, in his life and death it does not matter to me, maybe I'm uneducated on his life? or just being harsh but I'm not gonna jump on a bandwagon for the sake of it

That's not cynicism, it's paranoia

Conspiracy theory…. it is hardly unlikely and quite some confidence. I mean they kept him alive as a vegetable as long as possible.

I am not saying it is the case, this has no agenda, it is merely a thought.

Paranoid?! I’m not paranoid, I don’t care. Why do all the ‘lovers’ who are either denying r justifying what he did assuming that those of us with a more balanced view are arguing against him, as far as I can see no one is, simply giving it warts and all. Some of you seem to think we’re Fascist BNP members because we question the morals rather than blindly think he is so saint who did no wrong.

I’ve said repeatedly his cause was a good one and he did many wonderful things but to hear that would make me more balanced and not suit your argument, you want it to be ‘us and them’ because it is more convenient but it isn’t actually the truth.

Mandela was one of the greatest people in history. It's funny how the British and US governments are falling over themselves to praise him when it was they who kept him in prison for so long.

No not a cynical thought, that would be too soft a term for the garbage you've just written.

Absolutely, under the banner of fighting communism.

Redinthehead - What garbage have I written? I’ve offered very little in terms of opinion, simply presented the facts with more balance. Try more substance if you want to make a point, saying I’ve written garbage without quantifying it is worthless.

Bluedroog.. I read your posts expecting a point to emerge.

What's your point?

Your opinion is that Mandela died a few days ago and they held off announcing his death until a film premier...

That is utter garbage that even the Sunday sport wouldn't print.

It is something that small agenda driven publications might.

I said it was possible, it wouldn’t surprise me but let’s not let that distract from the real issue.

My point is to offer balance where the masses eulogise over such a great man, many people are ignorant to or choose to wash over the terrible things he did in the process. He did things for the right reasons but the wrong way. My point is to at least question his means and to at least have people question or acknowledge the full picture.

I’m not even being negative, just neutral are you justifying or denying what he did?

That's negative, not neutral.

The good he did far outweighed the bad.

WILL EVERYONE STOP BEING NICE ABOUT MANDELA

Bluedroog's trying to make a point

Those that don’t agree with me are just saying I’m talking rubbish, which bit? If you think the mass murders of innocent people was justified because of the cause then fine, that is your opinion but you can’t tell me I’m talking rubbish because I don’t share that view. It wasn’t one or the other, there is more than one way to change.

I’m simply playing Devil’s advocate, if there was a mass attack on Mandela without mention of his cause then I’d happily argue the case for him. It suits you to suggest I’m anti-Mandela, I’ve been called a fascist and a BNP member for simply offering perspective. I happen to think Mandela was a great man, but don’t that get in the way of your agenda.

Devil's advocate on the morning after he died?

He did lots of bad things, it's why he went to prison, but he's admitted to them and worked to improve the lives of millions of people. That perspective deserves airing too.

He was leader and founder of the terrorist wing of the ANC, they planted bombs in public places, land mines, had a policy of torture….his wife Winnie was partial to neck lacing the practice of setting petrol soaked tyres alight around people’s necks.

Are you denying or justifying?
