I think if Fellaini was signed in early July and had gone on tour with the team, we'd be seeing a different player to what we have seen so far. I could be wrong but that's my opinion.
I think him coming in after season had already started with his future up in the air all summer really affected him.
Others prefer to believe he's just useless but he clearly isn't useless. He's playing for Belguim national team and they have abundance of talented midfielders to pick from.
Moyes messed up in summer. The fact he left it so late to get Fellaini and paid more than he needed to, suggests he wasn't a player he desperately wanted.
I think Fellaini signing was always on the cars. BUT I do think Everton had the upper hand due to no one else coming in
I do think Fellaini was always in the plans though

Don't get me wrong I desperately want him to be good for obvious reasons, it would benefit Utd.
We couldn't do anything with him when he was at Everton and we still cannot do anything with him now he's at Utd.

After he had failed with all other targets
Ironically after our pathetic 25 million bid on Cesc obviously failed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn't a pathetic bid. Most bids start that low and it was obviously a feeler. Remember we went up to £30 million before Fabregas came out and said he wanted to stay.
Just how it goes. Had he been interested in coming and Barca said yes no doubt we would have paid whatever.
After he had failed with all other targets
---------------------------------------------------------
No, we bid for him and Baines in early August.
Time to contribute..

The Cesc bids were before that, I know as I remember being on a stag in Nottingham when the second 25million bid was placed. And that was mid July

I was replying to your comment where you said that we went for Fellaini after ALL our targets said no.
As far as I remember the joint Fellaini/Baines bid was after the Fabregas one but well before the De Rossi/Khedira/Herrera ones.
personally I think the change in personell at UTD (and boy was it a BIIIGGG change) has lead to a lot of negativity generally. This negativity coupled with results has manifested it itself on certain players
The likes of Fellaini young and nani were the easy targets
At the same time others look like heroes. So adnan can do no wrong, yet he is more frustrating than Ronaldo was in his early days

Come on mate, you know as well as I do those were all last minute panic bids.
We made ourselves look fools in the window and they ended up signing Fellaini at whatever costs so they didn't end up empty handed.
Our bid for De Rossi was quite frankly an embarrassment as was Cesc bids.
Kagawa, Nani, Anderson, Smalling and Adnan are untouchable on here with certain fans.
Perhaps the same is said of me regarding Fellaini but I guess that just shows how fans stand up for certain players. Human nature and all that.

I agree the Fellaini fee was excessive but Moyes did want Fellaini. I just wish (as Se85 said) that we got him back in July so he had a full pre-season with us.
He'll get that next summer so maybe we'll have to wait a few months to see what he's made of.
It is very silly to write him off though. Especially in his most recent game for us he was statistically the best player on the pitch and was let down by some terrible finishing by players ahead of him.

Ok ok so why the fricken hell did we not sign him then ?? He had a release clause FFS !!!
Moyes wouldn't have needed time to scout or make up his mind if he was good enough as he knows him.
I'm with Robb on this one.
Anderson got 6 years of lean way and some STILL haven't given up on him yet.
Fellaini deserves at least a full season and a pre season before he can be written off totally.
The stick I took on here for writing Ando off after 3 seasons and people write Fellaini off after 3 games.
How is that fair?

I have up in Anderson years ago, but at least he had pace and movement but is let down by being a poor player.
Fellaini is like a sloth, I never noticed this until I see him close up, he really does seem to be stuck in the mud when trying to run.
But hey let's hope I'm wrong and when he gets clear of "injury" he can manage to get into the side ahead of Jones who is of course not even a midfielder.
^ I like Jones at centre back

Against Everton he made more completed passes than anyone on the pitch, more tackles than anyone on the pitch and more interceptions than anyone on the pitch.
He was made to look bad by 2 things.
One, having Giggs alongside him and Two, by people ahead of him missing easy chances.
DM's are not there to dominate games. They are there to do a job which all gets unravelled by other people not doing their jobs.
Maybe just maybe that's because we can all see he has amazing talent.
None of the above that that.
------------------------------------------------------------
so did Ronaldo mate but it didn't stop certain folk.
Point is that we are looking for ''explanations'' and for a lot of us its unprecedented as despite everything we had certainty in management and THAT is where its all changed
TBH I don't believe the stick young gets is fair and Nani for me has always been our best winger yet he plays a game excels and not played again

god not this again, he was not good against Everton, he was far from the worst player on the pitch but he was still poor
I watched the game vs Everton he was awful
Don't care about stats, I watched him closely as midfield is my main gripe with Utd at moment and has been for last 4 years.
Everyone's midfield was much much better.
