It's a bit of a vicious circle and I can't criticise a manager who plays "tried and tested" a la Harry.
It nearly always takes time for players to adjust. Look at Suarez. Whilst his first season was impressive look how he has improved since getting used to pl.
----
eh?
Surely Liverpool deserve criticism then for playing Suarez, Everton for Rooney, United for Ronaldo when he did 100 stepovers a game.. Sherwood for Bentaleb?
Really agree with what Chronic's post. The guy clearly has talent, we've seen flashes of what he can do. Such as the Sheriff game (yes they were a pub team).
People have to bare in mind that he's come to the country where he can't speak the language and has to adapt. He's not in the position of Eriksen who knew Jan from Ajax and can speak good English, Chadli who knows Jan and Dembele or Paulinho who knows Sandro and Gomes.
As Chronic says Sandro took a while to settle but nobody was too bothered that he wasn't playing much in his first six months or so, simply because he had a much smaller fee. It wasn't until the AC Milan games in the Champions League that he put in performances that made people sit up and take notice.
I remembered this article on Sandro from when he first joined and some of it is pretty relevant here concerning Lamela.... www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/timvickery/2010/09/sandro_keen_to_ignore_talk_of.html
It's in a couple of other publications now. The point is this isn't like the lazy journalism you see from The Daily Mail where there are no quotes to back up any claim. This is direct from the horses mouth. You can't just make that $hit up and get away with it. It's not a tabloid. The Metro is a free newspaper that drip feeds actual 'news' with no agenda. It's real alright. It's just unclear whether Erik shares the same opinion as his father. Either way, it's a worry.

Wouldn't read too much into this. Even if he does want to go if the club have a brain cell between them they won't let him.
People need to realise he is a kid and needs time. He certainly needs some games and a confidence boost.
How many kids come over to the prem and hit the ground running? I remember thinking what average players Modric and Sandro looked initially! And Bale wasn't exactly a resounding success initially was he? If you look at Lamela even at Spurs he has shown quality albeit in fits and bursts. At Roma he was superb, and they spent the best part of £20m for him! He is obviously an amazing talent.
I don't think anyone can argue Lennon and Townsend are better footballers than Lamela. Sure, right now you could say Lennon/Townsend are more effective premier league players but once Lamela has some game time he will be more effective than them too. We need to think long term.

Townsend's main effect in the premier league has been about 45 shots at goal with the sole goal coming from a cross. 0 assists either....
Bales
Rooney for Everton - had played through youth team and well known to club
Ronaldo for utd - United were the best team in the league
Suarez for Liverpool - he was bought in to replace Torres so was always gonna play.
Don't worry, if there is even the slightest bit of truth in any of this, Osvaldo will have an encouraging word and Erik will become our next Bale
Oh and bentaleb for us - tried and tested by Sherwood.
Lamela far and away a better player than Lennon or Townsend. Wouldn't really believe he wants out after half a season but needs to be a starter from now on (understandable with the WC).
Exactly.
Pretty sure these rumours wouldn't be abound if it wasn't a World Cup year and/or if he was playing regularly.

His brother was saying the other day he doesn't want out and that was directly from him, not some paper saying his dad apparently said ht.
A quick google search tells you "lamela wants to leave" and "lamela not going anywhere"
Who do you choose to believe?
Walcott is one of the most dangerous players in the world. Can rip apart any defence with his pace.

Apart from Bradford, and any half decent side away from the Emirates.
AVBs Strepsils.. all valid yet irrelevant, the point is if their respective managers had not taken a risk we wouldn't have seen them play in the PL.. Lamela must be given games and time to prove his talent, if we're not going to do that we should sell him now.
Which, considering he was our largest investment with the Bale money, would surely put Levy and Baldini's positions in question. We haven't got the money to improve the squad while losing that kind of money..
I suspect Sherwood won't play him until he's sure that Lamela would understand him 100% but for me he looks like our most intelligent, natural footballer alongside Eriksen. The ability to take a player on with either foot, score goals, and more importantly read the game is all there imo. I was gutted Dos Santos was never given a run, if the same happens to our record signing we'll be a fackin joke.
Fridge boy
Your a d ick for believing these stupid stories.
Criticizing Baldini and Levy for buying a young player who has fantastic pedigree ?
I call bull**** on this one. Metro article says Lamela's father spoke to 'Italian media,' but after a rudimentary search I can't find any evidence of these discussions being reported in Italy, apart from stories linking back to the Sun and Metro stories in England.
In truth, Lamela was unlikely to be part of Argentina's squad anyway, so I don't think his lack of playing time has cost him a World Cup place. He only made two appearances during the World Cup qualifiers and has made just three friendly appearances over the last couple of years.
He is not going to adapt to English football by going back to Italy on loan and we cannot afford to waste the money we spent on him, or indeed the possibility of having such a talented player at the club.
Sherwood has to trust him and give him opportunities, especially at home. In time, I am still confident he will turn out to be a fantastic signing.
It would be foolish of Spurs to sell the Argentine Ronaldo.
I have to say me and chicken normally see eye to eye on a lot of things (Redknapp) and ordinarily I'd agree with him in that players should play on merit, whilst age, price tag and reputation should really count for nothing. However, my worry is that at the moment Lamela is Bale circa 2008 and Inter are Nottingham Forest. Without BAEs injury back then, Bale wouldn't have got his chance. It was only then we realised how good this kid was, when he got his chance through a run of games. We have to have the same faith in Lamela now to avoid losing a potential class player. Chicken, some players are given more chances than others. They're paid more too. Football isn't always about equals. When a player comes along supposedly worth 30 million at 21, you have to justify the cost and have faith in the very same player you considered worthy of being the club's most expensive signing ever.
I wish people were given equal opportunities in football but they're not. The very best get paid more and when they lose confidence, a manager continues to play them because he knows what he can do.
Anyway, I don't know why I bothered writing this as this thread appears to be dead now but I started it, I might as well finish it.
sell him back to Roma for $15m ish, take the loss and try and bring in some one decent for about $10m.
