A few good games at the Euros and Allen has truly become the Welsh Pirlo. He was with us for four years and rarely did I ever see a performance from him that made me think he was worthy of the Liverpool shirt on his back.

Looks to me that we are looking to sell club hence why owners were stingy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think they where stingy!

£34m Mane
£25m Wijnaldum
Isn't exactly stingy the only thing that makes it look like that is the deadwood that was shipped out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't call Allen, Ibe or even Skrtel deadwood.

We always new were going to get good money back for Benteke.

I just don't think the money was there for this big marquee player. Marquee as in big transfer fee and big wages.

Wouldn't disagree with that either but I didn't see enough from Wijnaldum last season to suggest he's any different apart from the couple he scored against us and every time I saw him he played further forward.

Isn't Wijnaldum like 3rd or 4th choice after that German kid and Zielinkski?

Wijnaldum is an improvement on Allen though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is he?

Maybe on the goal scoring cards but will he be any better in the middle?

Time will tell.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, he is. I can count Allen's good games for us on one hand.

Allen & Ibe weren't the only ones sold and Skrtel was finished.

I'd agree that the club could very well be up for sale though!

Allen wasn't great for us but wijnaldum will need time to show us if he can be the player we need and he can do it in the role he's being played in at the minute.

Wijnaldum already has an assist and could've won us a pen against Spurs for his shot which hit Alderweireld's arm (would've been harsh mind).

He offers goals and assists from midfield which is what Klopp seems to have targeted with Grujic and Mane as well. I think we went in for Dahoud a second time after we had already signed Wijnaldum so I don't think it was ever a case of one or the other but it does maybe suggest Klopp wants another defensive midfielder. Or maybe he wants to upgrade Hendo/Stewart/Lucas. As we couldn't tempt Monchemgladbach to sell we may not find out until next summer now.

Dahoud was Lucas' replacement I think.

Wouldn't having more star players increase the value of the club?

Buying players to help us challenge for a european place would also potentially increase the value.

I'd be surprised if FSG want to sell up completely, or even sell a majority stake in the club. They've always said they're here for the long term, to win trophies, etc.

Bill, I'm going to let Klopp be the judge of the quality of our squad as he knows much more about football than me. He's a training and tactics guy - he was never going to go out and buy 5 £30m players just because other clubs are doing the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its not a case of buying becasue other clubs did too, its a case of buying to solve glaring weaknesses in the squad.

I think we all agreed, for the most part, that we needed a GK, CB, LB and DM.

We got two, but missed out on the other two. That becomes doubly frustrating due to the whole negative net spend.

O course I have no idea whether that is by design or misfortune, but it still leave me feeling uneasy going into the season.

I just can't be happy with Milner at LB.

We'll just have to wait and see!

I hope Wijnaldum becomes an integral part of the team and improves us. If he does then it's £25m well spent!

This

Why if klopp is happy to ship out certain players and replace them because they aren't doing they're job. Why not Moreno?

He's simply not good enough and he's shown that in his 2 seasons here. It proves Klopp doesn't trust him because he's playing a right footed CM instead of him. It's worrying.

Klopp has stated he is happy with his LB options though, unless he is just trying to play the media. The only left back we were linked with all summer was Chilwell and would he have come in as a first team player? I doubt it. The Echo regularly rubbished the Hector rumours. If we signed Chilwell then Moreno may well have left but I think turning Milner into a full back/utility player was always part of Klopp's plan. He did similarly with Grosskreutz.

As a fan it can be annoying to see areas of the team that appear not to be strengthened but if Klopp is happy then I'm going to trust him.

To be fair to FSG I think they anticipated we would have made more progress on the field by now than we actually have, whether that's down to them hiring the wrong people or underestimating the level of competition we face to get there is questionable.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were looking to sell at least a good chunk of the club, even though they have a passion for sport they are businessmen at the end of the day and they make a huge profit on a £1bn valuation.
