Usually when news is leaked like this of us already being at an advanced stage of negotiations, the deal is already done.
This is one I really won't think is done until it's announced though. Not at all convinced he will pass his medical
He's on £860k/pa at RBL
I guess it's happening.

Classic FSG signing. Will look good on paper.
its quite smart, players can't complain about not playing if theyre injured, so we can just swap between whatever 2 of the 5 aren't injured

I think he will be an upgrade on our defenders with the exception of VVD if he can stay fit.
Sell Phillips to a lower premier league club for 15-20m.

I’d keep Phillips, his fitness seems ok, I doubt his wages are that high and he’ll settle for less game time. We need to get one of the crocks off the books.
Phillips doesn't suit our playing of a high line. He was beaten for pace by McBurnie who is a below average player. I want the fourth centre back to push up to the halfway line and be comfortable in defending 1v1.
I also think Phillips is looking better than he is because of the situation the club have been in this season.
Nobody seems to know when Phillips’ contract runs until. Obviously massively affects what we could sell him for.

Yep, put him in a team Burnley or Palace and he would look class. Pace is the only thing he's missing to be honest, he's got everything else to be a top quality defender.
He cant pass for sh!t which is a big thing for me. I'd go as far to say he is comfortably the worst passer of a ball in our squad and I fully expect him to be sold in the summer tbh.

I think he will want out in the summer anyway as this season will have given him a taster for regular top flight football that he will likely want elsewhere.
I guess VVD, Gomez, Konate, Kabak is better than VVD, Gomez & Matip
Although we're once again putting our faith in players staying fit even though you would expect us to learn from this season.
Kabak has played about 4 or 5 games in a row though...so that's a positive.
we got to keep Kabak, he's been thrown in the team in a defensive crisis and after a shaky start has performed well.
He's only 20 too so will get better, also hopefully next season he'll have better options playing alongside him.
I really hope we keep Kabak but if we sign Konate I don't think we will, that's a huge error for me. Kabak is half the price and isn't the second coming of Matip.
Matip, Gomez and Konate are all so unreliable based on what I've read from Konate. Need some reliability at the back. No idea how VVD will recover either at this stage.
I think we will keep him and hopefully get this Konate too.
I don't know Matip's contract situation but I would think if they can get rid they will.
Getting Kabak and Konate for 50m combined approx plus wages together being under 100k is probably very appealing to the owners.
Matip is one of the highest earners at the club and barley gets on the pitch.
It makes business sense.

Could theoretically be our central defence for 10 years but just don't see us spending on both.
