I understand where they were coming from. Despite the obvious elephant in their room, they were doing what they thought was best for the club.

Also I have no doubt (I'm lying, I do) that the arrogance of Real & Barca probably played a huge part in getting the other clubs on board, thinking they run European football.

There's so many questions now that this thing has fell apart so quickly

I think I said earlier but I wonder how much the players had an influence (if any).

So none were consulted apparently and all of a sudden they're looking at missing out on all sorts. Apparently Maguire and Shaw went straight to the top to complain. I imagine Jordan did something similar (but better obviously).

Jurgen and the other managers looked well cheesed off about it. Milner didnt look too happy in his interview about it either.

Bales agent made a good point, these players got threatended instantly by uefa and fifa etc despite having nothing to do with it. Same as the furloughing stuff really.

our leadership in the team, Hendo Milner etc Ox, Trent and Robbo. These lads would have been fuming over it. They know what it means to fans of our club and in this country.

Im sad they had to go through the abuse they got from their own fans before the leeds game. Not having anything to do with it but kinda being blamed already.

As john said that hurt him the most and i hope it does.

no doubt jurgen had words as soon as he could with john over that.

Jurgen flushed John's head down the toilet at Kirkby apparently.

I despised the concept of ever presents in the ESL and wanted absolutely nothing to do with a club that saw itself as above other clubs in our league and deserving of a permanent place in an ESL but I've no doubt that Henry saw it as the right financial move for the club rather than an attempt to directly line his own pockets.

Frankly the more valuable the club as a business becomes the more he benefits when it's time to sell but the club being more valuable is only a positive thing for all of us.

But, as we've seen football isn't all about financials and you can't throw away the concept of sporting merit.

Henry et al have made a pigs ear with their ESL proposal. It's a monumental gaff, which logically could herald the beginning of the end for their reign at the club. Liverpool fans don't tend to let these things lie.

I doubt this is the end of the matter though.

The billionaires want the money. They will slink off, lick their wounds for now, but this issue is far from over. Eventually they will stumble over the right formula they can sell to the masses, despite UEFA's protestations. Football has to evolve, the sad thing as it does, the real football fans are left further and further behind

The idea of unfair competition in the ESL is what was entirely wrong with the concept, however I don't think Henry intentionally went out to sign up to that aspect of the ESL, given his origins in America where franchising is more present.

I think he saw it as the best financial move that allowed the club to potentially go and spend and develop the areas of the club further in the long run. It would have made the club a more attractive prospect financially and would have significantly bumped up the clubs value, however, given FSG's history at the club already, I think they would have increased the clubs value by investing in current/potential assets rather than having more money just sat there and waiting for a middle eastern oil company to buy the club.

I think people seem to think that the owners only thought about the finances and not the fans. I actually don't think this is true. I think they looked at the current financial situation and looked at the potential revamp of the Champions League by UEFA and collectively came together and said "we can go and do better than this". The concept of the ESL outweighed the revamp of the CL and the current Premier League situation. Unfortunately, it created the mess it has.

Let’s not make the mistake of thinking we’re some kind of socialist beacon.

We’re about as capitalist as you can get. We all want the big money signings to compete with City and co. We all want a revamped stadium with state of the art facilities.

What was the intention of FSG when they purchased the club? To profit. We shouldn’t be that surprised when they keep pursuing it.

It’s our job to tell them when they’ve gone too far. In this case, they did. But let’s not think that prior to last week, we all thought they were Saints whose sole purpose was to make Liverpool a bastion of fair play and to help the common folk.

The common fan barely goes the game these days. Sky Tv asked us to pay £15 to watch games in a pandemic and now they’re spouting off about greed. You couldn’t make it up.

I really hope all fans keep the momentum going and start targeting the media & UEFA now.

Those changes they're implementing is atrocious.

they disregard the calls for better fixture management, the new cl format is just as selfish/greedy. Players already play too many games/competitions. But ofc $$$ comes first.

UEFA hid behind the excuse of fair competition but then have gone and said the two clubs with the highest coefficient will be given a place in the competition.

Even in the 48 hours the ESL was a thing you saw some posters on here move from opposing the idea to justifying it's (potential) existence. Had the 12 clubs just dug in I have no doubt that the number of accepting supporters would have grown and grown.

Fundamentally the clubs don't want UEFA getting as big a cut of the money so when the next idea comes along I suspect we'll see more acceptance, "it's not as bad as the ESL" type arguments.

I agree with you PPD, the genie is out of the bottle - there will be change, just a matter of time

Pretty clear FSG need to buy Mbappe to smooth this over.

If you really dig into your mind and think about it, there's no other way to level the playing field without the elite clubs breaking away to form their own competition.

Football is too deep into the money for there to be fair distribution of money so that everyone benefits. That would require a complete reset of the game.

The way we value players, agents' fees. Salaries of everyone involved. Renegotiation of all contracts from media to the players, managers. Even the facking kit men. It's not just, ah lets get every club in the PL equal share of £3bn. You'll end up doing more harm to the common fan than you think.

If every self-righteous fan that's spoken out recently really believes that they love the sport more than the money their club makes then if the elite clubs breakaway, there should be no shortage of fans watching Burnley taking on West Ham as big game right?...right?

Probably not.

It does worry me if they sold the club who would actually buy us.

Forbes valued us at $4billion. Who would buy us for that price that isn't an oil/state backed tycoon or just another group who care about nothing but the money?

At the very least, FSG don't take any money out of the club to line their own pockets.

Oliver Dowden is everywhere.

A fan lead review ...blah...blah.

Boris is moist about all this. He gets to wallow in the veneer of embracing the common man and triumphing the power of the people. He will be loving every minute of this, taking the heat off his government regarding covid and brexit. It's even better than Prince Philip popping his clogs

They've pretty much done fack all, but end up looking good. It's s sickening watching THIS government pontificate about rampant capitalism in football.

Also there's one person's name that has completely evaded everyone in regards to this whole ESL debacle.

Charlie Stillitano. The real architect behind everything.
