I reckon Matip would love sitting on the bench on £125k a week not playing personally. He knows he's not getting that anywhere else.
I'd forgotten we had given him a new contract, assumed it was expiring next year.
It would be difficult to move Matip on due to his wages and injury record, I don't think anybody will be taking him really anytime soon as I don't think he would represent value for money.
Yep depending on Virj recovery we could see more game time for Nat Phillips if we purchase another injury prone defender to join the other two.

“But they don't appear to be worse owners than , Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and many others have.”
This is the take on the Glazers according to one United fan. Do we think FSG are on par with the Glazers as owners?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Leveraged buyout, don't reinvest sales.. drove the ESL it seems, take loads of money out of the club as dividends..
No fackin way, our owners are the best you will get short of a dodgy oil tycoon, which would imo destroy the soul of the club anyway
We'll see with Matip. I mean he's on 6.5m a year so it wouldn't exactly be a surprise to see a move subsidised in some way especially as he was on a free.
I think Phillips will be sold.
I'd keep Phillips around until January at least, or loan him out but make sure the loan can be cut short in an emergency.
Having 3 of your 4 CB's be Gomez, Konate and Matip next season and your 4th "fitter" CB having a long-term injury in his late 20's, it's playing with fire if you ask me.

I don’t know. We’ve got a habit of getting decent prices for unwanted players.
Anyone remember how under Dr Zaf we had barely any injurys

People would be queuing up for Matip. We sold Andy Carroll for 18 million ffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Carroll was young, had a few niggling injuries for us and Rodgers wanted him out so we made a massive loss. Players we are talking about are in their late 20s or into 30s who have years on injury prone on their CV.
Carroll was also sh!t so...

Not many of them on 6 figure wages a week though were they really.
If he stays he stays but if it's that cut and dried I'm not sure why it's being discussed. Personally I think if we accepted a low fee (sub £10m) then there would be no end of takers.
I think it's worth pointing out that players do tend to get injured more under Klopp too, Ings being a great example of this. I'm sure clubs would look at that too but whatever.
We just have to price him accordingly with regards to how much he would earn. If he won't take anything under his current wage then I'd assume there will be takers at 10m.

Lovren is quite a good comparison. Similar age when he left, similar wages. Got £11m for him but that was from a Russian team and crucially he was always fit.
Do well to get half that I think for Matip with his injuries.
Fair point about Lovren, but I do think shifting the likes of Matip and Ox would be harder for their injury record reasons. By no means impossible though.
Ox may be an easier one to shift as he will just want to be playing his later years I think, could see a West Ham type move for him. Also being English will help. Can't see us getting much either for him though.
Need to think about the potential future wages savings rather than the actual transfer fees with a lot of these players though.
We got our money back on Lovren, we'll maybe try the same with Matip and he was on a free. He's a class defender on his day with a large skill set. Would be no suprise to see a low fee and him moved on. I'm not privvy to his medical records but as with Ings I suspect Matip will be able to put more consistent fitness together under a different training regime.
Can't see Ox going just yet unless we sign HG player.

If we really wanted to be caants, and I'm sure we are, we could really grease Matip's agent's hands to find him a club.
