We know of interest in 2 of them too, Klopps spoken about his admiration of Traore and we've been linked with Sarr a few times. ASM is a joy to watch but he gets such a free role even fantasy football have stuck him as a striker

Term question, do you think we are as good as City and Chelsea and will go toe to toe with them over a 38 game season?

If not, what do you think we'd need to change that?

did anyone see sarr at the weekend? Looked a real handful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't see the game this w/end but in general when watching Sarr, I don't really get the excitement. He doesn't look anything particularly special to me. Good but not great.

If we were going to go for anyone from the EPL then I'd still like to see what Allan Saint-Maximin can do around other top level attacking talent and under a genuinely top class manager. He's a long way from the finished article but I reckon Klopp could make him a real player.

ASM looks a very good player in a poor team.

We are better than Chelsea. Their defence as a unit is good and playing on the counter suits them but individually they aren't as good as ours.

City are the only team who I think is better.

I think Chelsea are being underestimated.

We all know especially after Saturday how strong their defence is but they've got some excellent attacking talent too, and a very deep squad.

Chelsea's bench had Thiago Silva, Kovacic, Werner, Hudson-Odoi, Chilwell and Ziyech on it.

Pulisic another one but wasn't on the bench.

I don't think we've got close to that level of depth.

I'd back Chelsea to finish above us. More depth throughout their squad and more adaptability tactically.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And they're backing Tuchel for now as well so he'll also be happy.

They are more of a threat than City imo.

City obviously have more depth than we do with their museum of attacking midfielders. But I'd expect they will be all out for the CL anyway which may help us.

Chelsea and City my favourites. I think us and United finish 3rd and 4th. Spurs have had a good start too.

I’d say our strongest eleven is easily as good as theirs and wouldn’t lose many games throughout the season. Obviously their squads have more depth than ours, but then they have unlimited funds and we don’t. So our chances of mounting a serious challenge probably rests on us being able to pick from our top 15ish players for most of the season.

Personally I think our defence and midfield are spot on, I don’t understand the clamour for a Wij replacement when my understanding was that Thiago was signed for that purpose.

The only place I think we’re a bit short is up front, I’ve said all along I’d like us to sign someone to get the ‘scrappy’ goals, when we’re struggling to break teams down. Someone like Lewandowski, but not him.

I’m hoping we’ll still see plenty of inconsistency from Chelsea over the season. They’re still kind of bedding in players after a lot of new signings in a relatively short period. I saw some of that on Saturday. Obviously it may not affect them that much, but I think it could be next season until they really get going and potentially be better than City.

What would you say is our strongest XI?

For me:

Alisson
TAA - Matip - VVD - Robertson
Thiago - Fab - Henderson
Salah - Jota - Mane

Hendo on the left side looked like a fish out of water though lol

Yeah, I get that Elliott plays right so he can cut inside on his left foot but I'm not really happy that the Henderson/Trent right hand side is broken up, that's an underrated partnership in this team.

Agree with that, but as said above Hendo needs to be right side.

Well I'm guessing when Thiago is back up to full speed then we go back to Henderson on the right and Thiago on the left.

But then again, back end of last season, that Trent-Thiago-Salah trifecta was creating a lot chances for us.

What I think we could be doing better at the moment is planning for the future. Think Konate was a good example of that, as was Jota the year before but I don't think it's enough.

In two seasons time, the only players from that starting XI under 30 will be Alisson, TAA, Robbo, Fab and Jota.

The rest will be 31 or older. With the indefatigable Salah I'm less concerned but it's definitely an ageing first XI.

What you don't want is, like when Fergie left United, the club to be left with a squad full of short termism that needs complete revolution.

Had we been able to pick up an attacker this window much in the similar vein as Jota and perhaps a midfielder, I'd feel far more comfortable about our future.

Would rather we picked up 3 or 4 players each window, both for the future and to freshen up the team that's been playing together for a long time now.

Just can see it in 2 years time when the likes of Mane, Firmino, Thiago, Henderson will be pushing mid 30s and we need to tear it all down and rebuild it.

Alisson will be over 30 actually, less worrying with a goalkeeper though.

But in two years what level will players like Jones and Elliott be at, and one or two others that are coming through? I do agree that we could be doing more in the market, but we’re only 1 or 2 signings short imo. People complain that we don’t bring enough young talent through, but that’s something we are doing now, but it’s not an overnight process.

The actual age is not the problem...it's their performances and fitness levels we need to monitor very very closely.
