So Lavia is said to be around 50m. Are we really going to spend 140m+ on three midfielders? That’s like 105m over our budget?

Though this does have a better feel to it than just signing Bellingham would have, I reckon. Makes far more sense.

Sounds like what City have is an outright option to buy Lavia back for a predetermined fee of £40m which is activated summer 2024 but expires after that summer.

Were you a regular Southampton watcher? The reason I ask is that he plays in a position that doesn’t really stand out in terms of getting that much attention.

The fact City let him go is irrelevant imo, he probably felt he was ready to play more first team football than he was going to get there. I reckon we’re less likely to class this kind of signing as a risk, it’s rare we get it wrong when we decide to spend decent money. Our risksy signings tend to be in the mid price bracket where we take the chance with players fitness issues, we get those wrong plenty!

40-50m is alot of money on a project player for me. I'd want someone more proven.

Spent the morning so far watching videos of Szoboszlai. The guy looks a real player and the way he strikes a ball is unlike anybody we have in our midfield / forward ranks. Looks like he’ll be a fantastic asset especially alongside AMA.
