Just no. Anyway, I'm going with Klopp on this one.

Tell him to play TAA in midfield while you're at it

This is one of those situations where all the evidence is pointing towards a certain conclusion but people are still like "naaah, he's OK".
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All the evidence?

In 21/22 we won 80.8% of games with Thiago starting. When he was injured of benched, that win rate dropped significantly to 67.6%.

I haven't seen the % from 22/23 but I'm sure I read at some point that our win % without him last season was shockingly low.

When the team is playing well, Thiago controls matches. He moves the ball quickly so defences don't get much time to reset. He's far too unreliable injury wise but I'd take 25 games of Thiago rather than cashing in. Especially next year when we're going to have at least 2 new midfielders settling in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, that stat is a very loose one and probably the reason why stats aren't ultimately reliable. Where did you get this info? What was our win percentage when Hendo or Fab or anyone else started vs when they didn't start? Can we compare that to Thiago so as to see whether this stat is something special or just another average stat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Was just a telegraph article because I couldn't remember the number off the top of my head but knew they were good - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/09/14/keep-thiago-fit-liverpool-can-put-end-clear-the-air-meetings/

Think the 22/23 % being shockingly low was on twitter (yeah, I know) but I really can't remember the numbers.

I actually agree that his goals and assists is a little low for someone of his ability. But equally I wouldn't be judging him on that basis. Just as I wouldn't (for example) use goals and assists to judge someone like Pirlo.

As I said, when we're playing well Thiago controls games. The calm metronome.

I didn't use just goals and assists to judge him. There was more to corroborate my view. Obviously your point works better if you just decide that I judged him on just goals and assists but that's not what I did.

"His three seasons with us
18 games 0 goals 0 assists
25 games 1 goal 4 assists
24 games 0 goals 0 assists
Scored 1 goal in the CL overall
Interceptions and many other stats also poor
Same period Hendo has 3 goals and 8 assists."

I'll be honest with you, I ignored your "interceptions and many other stats also poor" because it was so vague. It felt to me like you were focusing on goals and assists.

Yes, in that particular comment perhaps, but I made more comments I'm sure. Feel free to have a look.

Haaland 14m and Mo 12.9m. That's a big chunk of the budget

A defender who team dont concede much n he gets lotsa ass-cysts

of course he exoensive, u mmmmmuuuuuuuggghg

I can see the value of keeping him for the young players to learn from. He's obviously great on the ball, his distribution is outstanding, but in terms of energy and mobility he struggles. Baj looked more effective than Thiago did last season imo. If a decent bid came in I hope Klopp doesn't hesitate to move him on, considering the wedge he's on. He's not the player he was and is injury prone.

------------Fabinho
---Szoboszlai-----Mac10
Salah-----Gakpo------Diaz

Bench: Kelleher, Nunez, Jota, Thiago, Hendo, Bajcetic, Elliott, Jones, Morton, Tsimikas, Matip, Gomez, Phillips, .Adrian

Question marks over Matip, Tsimikas, Thiago, Phillips, Morton and Kelleher staying.

Out of the youth? Looks like the RB Bradley will be given atleast pre season? Not really watched the youth for years now but based on previous pre seasons and cup games the likes of Gordon, Musialowski, Doak, Beck, Clark and Koumetio my some minutes? With Quansah and Lewis etc often in the England unders set ups.

So looking at it all i think its clear CBs the weakest area going forward although we'd all probably take another mf atm the cb issue is there. Matip and VVD some would say past their best and old now, Gomez not only unreliable fitness wise but also performance and Phillips not suited.

posted on 3/7/23

May see some minutes*

We're again 1 injury to VVD away from being in real trouble at CB. VVD himself having had a pretty poor season for us and the Netherlands last season too. Not sure if Matip has another season in him but if he does he'd have to be managed cautiously anyway. Gomez and Konate have their own question marks over staying fit for a full season, Gomez hasnt completed one yet and hes been with us longer than Klopp.

£19m for a guy who’s played only league one football.

Kelleher is home grown too isn’t he? Should be asking for £40m for him in that case.
